of 200
images, licensed from the Palace of the
Governors Photo Archives, available both in the newly
refurbished Palace of the Governors Book,

www.newmexicocreates.org.
The images are part of the world-renowned Palace

images from many different collections. Memorable,
sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous or
somber, these
images will make quite an impression on you.

West San Francisco Street,
1918
This photo was
taken by Wesley Bradfield, circa 1918. It is of a scene
on West San Francisco Street at Don Gaspar in
Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is interesting for its more
urbane view of downtown Santa Fe, proving,
once again, that "true
fashion" never goes out of style!

St. Francis of Assisi Church,
Taos
An iconic photograph by T. Harmon Parkhurst, circa
1930,
of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ranchos de
Taos, New Mexico. According to Mary Anne
Redding, Photo Curator at the Palace of the
Governors Photo
Archives, "In 1915 Parkhurst opened his own
photography studio in Santa Fe and worked
thoughout northern New Mexico until 1951 when
he closed his studio due to lingering
complications from an accident while on a
photo shoot." This is from an original 7
x 11 nitrate negative. Courtesy of the Palace

Staircase at Loretto Chapel
Photograph by Robert Martin of the
Loretto Chapel staircase. According to Mary Anne
Redding, Photo Curator at the Palace of the
Governors Photo
Archives, "This is his detail of the famous or infamous
wooden staircase in the Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe,
NM, 1967. The Loretto
Chapel was originally built as Our Lady of
Light Chapel for the Sisters of Loretto and
is now part of the Inn and Spa at Loretto, a
hotel and popular tourist attraction." We love this
photo for its contemporary view of another New
Mexico icon. Courtesy of
the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives,
