Dreaming Awake

"Forgiving dreams have little need to last. They are not made to separate the mind from what it thinks. They do not seek to prove the dream is being dreamed by someone else. And in these dreams a melody is heard which everyone remembers, though he has not heard it since before all time began. Forgiveness, once complete, brings timelessness so close the song of Heaven can be heard, not with the ears, but with the holiness which never left the altar which abides forever deep within the Son of God. And when he hears this song again, he knows he never heard it not. And where is time, when dreams of judgment have been put away?"

   Perception follows judgment. Having judged,

you therefore see what you would look upon.

For vision merely serves to offer you

what you would have. It is impossible

to overlook what you would see, and fail

to see what you have chosen to behold.

How surely, therefore, must the real world come

to greet the holy sight of anyone

who takes the Holy Spirit's purpose as

his goal for seeing. And he cannot fail

to look upon what Christ would have him see,

and share Christ's love for what he looks upon.

"I have no purpose for today except

to look upon a liberated world,

set free from all the judgments I have made.

Father, this is Your Will for me today,

and therefore it must be my goal as well."

What is the Last Judgment?

 <AUDIO> <VIDEO>

Voice & Music by Martin Weber-Caspers [maz]

IAMBIC PENTAMETER
Format from URTEXT by Lee Flynn

Christ's Second Coming gives the Son of God

the gift to hear the Voice for God proclaim

that what is false is false, and what is true

has never changed. And this the judgment is

in which perception ends. At first you see

a world which has accepted this as true,

projected from a now corrected mind.

And with this holy sight, perception gives

a silent blessing and then disappears,

its goal accomplished and its mission done.

The final judgment on the world contains

no condemnation. For it sees the world

   as totally forgiven, without sin,

and wholly purposeless. Without a cause,

and now without a function in Christ's sight,

it merely slips away to nothingness.

There it was born, and there it ends as well.

And all the figures in the dream in which

the world began go with it. Bodies now

are useless, and will therefore fade away,

because the Son of God is limitless.

You who believed that Gods last judgment would

condemn the world to hell along with you,

accept this holy truth: God's judgment is

the gift of the Correction He bestowed

on all your errors, freeing you from them,

and all effects they ever seemed to have.

To fear HIs saving grace is but to fear

   complete release from suffering, return

   to peace, security and happiness,

and union with your own Identity.

God's final judgment is as merciful

as every step in His appointed plan

to save His Son, and call Him to return

to the eternal peace He shares with him.

Be not afraid of Love. For It alone

can heal all sorrow, wipe away all tears,

and gently waken from his dreams of pain

the Son whom God acknowledges as His.

Be not afraid of this. Salvation asks

you give it welcome. And the world awaits

your glad acceptance, which will set it free.|

This is God's final judgment: "You are still

   My holy Son, forever innocent,

   forever loving and forever loved,

as limitless as Your Creator, and

   completely changeless and forever pure.

Therefore awaken and return to Me.

I am Your Father, and you are My Son.

ACIM Edmonton - Sarah's Reflections

ACIM Edmonton, CA

Lesson  312
I see all things as I would have them be
.

Sarah's Commentary:

This lesson is read in the context of the section which talks about the Last Judgment. The whole course is summarized in the words in 1.1 of "What is the Last Judgment". These words affirm that "what is false is false, and what is true has never changed". The problem is that we have taught ourselves to believe that what is false is, indeed true. And what does this cover? Well, it covers everything we see. We believe that the body, sin, guilt, fear and the world of time and space are real. We believe that it all ends with death and that death is real. And the issues and problems in our lives all seem very real to us don't they? We believe that our problems and the problems of the world are all very real.

What Jesus is teaching in the course and every lesson in it is the same thing over and over. It is that nothing real can be threatened (our eternal reality)  and nothing unreal exists (everything of this body, personality and world we see). The real is our eternal Self. And that Self is and always has been innocent.  Jesus says to us "This is a very simple course. Perhaps you do not feel you need a course which, in the end teaches that only reality is true. But do you believe it? When you perceive the real world, you will recognize that you did not believe it".  (T.11.VIII.1)

And what will we perceive when we see the real world? Where we saw sin, we will only see innocence, where we saw attack we will only see a call for love, where we felt afraid we will only know certainty and we will never see any justification for anger, only love. As T.25.III Perception and Choice reminds us, "He will hear plainly that the calls of war he heard before are really calls to peace. He will perceive that where he gave attack is but another altar where he can, with equal ease and far more happiness bestow forgiveness. And he will reinterpret all temptation as just another chance to bring him joy". (T.25.III.6.8)

What is temptation? It is anything in our lives that seems to invite us to worry, be sad, fret, get upset, attack, doubt, be depressed, frustrated, seek pleasure etc. It is, in other words, anything that takes us out of our peace. We can only experience those kinds of feelings if we have judged a situation or event in our lives as something we want or don't want. Thus the lesson says that perception follows judgment. To respond to every situation with love and see nothing that seems to happen to as hurtful in any way is true perception. Everything in our experience  is an opportunity to forgive which is the reflection of God's Love in this world. Everyone in our lives has played their roles exactly as we deemed necessary for our awakening. That is why it is all perfectly in our script for our awakening. When we resist the lessons it is because we have deemed what is good and what is bad for us. But we can't know.

We may wonder what if we give love and offer forgiveness but it seems not to be received? Lesson 197 reminds us that "It does not matter if another thinks your gifts unworthy. In his mind there is a part that joins with yours in thanking you". I know in my own life there have been many occasions when I have released someone or some situation, and not had any solid evidence that anything has changed. Yet simply trusting that the blessing was received is what is asked of us. Certainly, it is received by our own mind the instant it is given. I have experienced where after some time, something will show up that demonstrates that there has been a miraculous change in the relationship. For example in one situation, I got an email asking for my forgiveness after two years of no communication. It was an affirmation for me that the love is always received and I need not concern myself with the outcome. In fact, Jesus tells us in the Manual for Teachers that when we give the gift, we also give the outcome with it and to worry whether it has been received is simply to offer attack instead of love.  Attack thoughts, judgments, and condemnation all interfere with our goal of enlightenment and thus are always counterproductive. We need not judge ourselves when we do make judgments though, as that too is the same error. Just watching our thoughts is what we are called to do. And then we must be willing to give them over for release.

The Manual for Teachers affirms that "the world will end in love because it is a place of sorrow. The world will end in peace, because it is a place of war. When peace has come, what is the purpose of the world? The world will end in laughter, because it is a place of tears." So all of our trials and tribulations are just a classroom for our learning. That is the only purpose that the world has. That is the only purpose for our seeming problems and fantasies of what we think we need for our happiness. It is to learn that "I see all things as I would have them be" If we want to see differently, we must let the Holy Spirit judge for us. Right now everything we see is just a projection of our own mind looking back at us. The world is only a mirror of our own mind. With changed thoughts we see a changed world.  It is wonderful to have this kind of power in our own mind to heal that which keeps us in despair. We are not a victim of the world we see.

So today we are invited to see a liberated world, set free from our judgments. In other words, the world we see now is not as it is but our perception of it is based on our interpretation. Notice how hard it is to convince someone of a different view than what they hold. They, the same as ourselves, are convinced of the truth of their perceptions. But how simple to see the real world, yet notice how much resistance there is to releasing our perception, to being right about the way we see. We think that seeing with vision which is to see through Christ's eyes is difficult. Yet in this lesson he assures us that all we have to do is have the desire. "How surely, therefore, must the real world come to greet the holy sight of anyone who takes the Holy Spirit's purpose as his goal for seeing" (1.5)

If we truly want to see a world of love, of innocence and of peace, we will, because of our willingness to surrender being right. When our judgments are released then everyone is blessed through us.  Where we previously saw attack we now see a call for love and understanding. And when doubt and fear arise, we simply observe it and let it go. All it takes is our desire and willingness.  It is to simply observe our own judgments and be willing to look at them without judgment so that they can be released. When we judge our attacks then we are looking at them with the ego. Turning them over to the Holy Spirit allows them to be healed instead. That is what the process of forgiveness is in the course. It is about looking at our own thoughts.

"And he cannot fail to look upon what Christ would have him see and share Christ's Love for what he looks upon". He is assuring us we cannot fail. With determination, purpose, intention, desire and practice, we ask for help to see beyond the error so that we can see the people, events, situations, in our lives as innocent, holy and washed in love. We can thus ultimately know the real world through our willingness to bring all of our judgments to the light of truth without judging ourselves.

 Love and blessings, Sarah

A Course in Miracles

TEXT
 Chapter
Twenty Nine
The Awakening

IX. Christ and Anti-Christ

52 What is an idol? Do you think you know? For idols are unrecognized as such and never seen for what they really are. That is the only power which they have. Their purpose is obscure, and they are feared and worshipped both because you do not know what they are for and why they have been made. An idol is an image of your brother which you would value more than what he is. Idols are made that he may be replaced, no matter what their form. And it is this which never is perceived and recognized. Be it a body or a thing, a place, a situation or a circumstance, an object owned or wanted, or a right demanded or achieved, it is the same.

53 Let not their form deceive you. Idols are but substitutes for your reality. In some way, you believe they will complete your little self for safety in a world perceived as dangerous, with forces massed against your confidence and peace of mind. They have the power to supply your lacks and add the value which you do not have. No one believes in idols who has not enslaved himself to littleness and loss. And thus must seek beyond his little self for strength to raise his head and stand apart from all the misery the world reflects. This is the penalty for looking not within for certainty and quiet calm which liberates you from the world and lets you stand apart in quiet and in peace.

54 An idol is a false impression or a false belief-some form of anti-Christ which constitutes a gap between the Christ and what you see. An idol is a wish made tangible and given form and thus perceived as real and seen outside the mind. Yet it is still a thought and cannot leave the mind that is its source. Nor is its form apart from the idea it represents. All forms of anti-Christ oppose the Christ. And fall before His face like a dark veil which seems to shut you off from Him, alone in darkness. Yet the light is there. A cloud does not put out the sun. No more a veil can banish what it seems to separate nor darken by one whit the light itself.

55 This world of idols is a veil across the face of Christ because its purpose is to separate your brother from yourself. A dark and fearful purpose, yet a thought without the power to change one blade of grass from something living to a sign of death. Its form is nowhere, for its source abides within your mind where God abideth not. Where is this place where what is everywhere has been excluded and been kept apart? What hand could be held up to block God's way? Whose voice could make demand He enter not? The "more-than-everything" is not a thing to make you tremble and to quail in fear. Christ's enemy is nowhere. He can take no form in which he ever will be real.

56 What is an idol? Nothing! It must be believed before it seems to come to life and given power that it may be feared. Its life and power are its believer's gift, and this is what the miracle restores to what has life and power worthy of the gift of Heaven and eternal peace. The miracle does not restore the truth, the light the veil between has not put out. It merely lifts the veil and lets the truth shine unencumbered, being what it is. It does not need belief to be itself, for it has been created, so it is. An idol is established by belief, and when it is withdrawn, the idol "dies."

57 This is the anti-Christ-the strange idea there is a power past omnipotence, a place beyond the infinite, a time transcending the eternal. Here the world of idols has been set by the idea this power and place and time are given form and shape the world where the impossible has happened. Here the deathless come to die, the all-encompassing to suffer loss, the timeless to be made the slaves of time. Here does the changeless change; the peace of God, forever given to all living things, gives way to chaos. And the Son of God, as perfect, sinless and as loving as his Father, come to hate a little while; to suffer pain, and finally to die.

58 Where is an idol? Nowhere! Can there be a gap in what is infinite, a place where time can interrupt eternity? A place of darkness set where all is light, a dismal alcove separated off from what is endless, has no place to be. An idol is beyond where God has set all things forever and has left no room for anything to be except His Will. Nothing and nowhere must an idol be while God is everything and everywhere.

59 What purpose has an idol, then? What is it for? This is the only question which has many answers, each depending on the one of whom the question has been asked. The world believes in idols. No one comes unless he worshipped them and still attempts to seek for one that yet might offer him a gift reality does not contain. Each worshipper of idols harbors hope his special deities will give him more than other men possess. It must be more. It does not really matter more of what-more beauty, more intelligence, more wealth, or even more affliction and more pain. But more of something is an idol for. And when one fails, another takes its place with hope of finding more of something else. Be not deceived by forms the "something" takes. An idol is a means for getting more. And it is this that is against God's Will.

60 God has not many sons, but only One. Who can have more, and who be given less? In Heaven would the Son of God but laugh if idols could intrude upon his peace. It is for him the Holy Spirit speaks and tells you idols have no purpose here. For more than Heaven can you never have. If Heaven is within, why would you seek for idols which would make of Heaven less, to give you more than God bestowed upon your brother and on you as one with Him? God gave you all there is. And to be sure you could not lose it, did He also give the same to every living thing as well. And thus is every living thing a part of you, as of Himself. No idol can establish you as more than God. But you will never be content with being less.
