TypeTalk: You ask, we answer! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q. I need a sound recording copyright
symbol (the letter P in a circle) for a CD
cover I'm designing. I can't find one
anywhere. Can you help? Hmm...Q. What is the difference between a character and a glyph? Hmm... Q. How can I disable auto-numbering in Microsoft Word? I've looked in Preferences as well as the Bullets and Numbering palette but can't find the option. Hmm... Q. When I'm using Adobe Illustrator, how can I access the true-drawn small caps available in many OpenType fonts? Hmm... Read the answers to these and more in TypeTalk, my weekly Q&A blog (formerly a monthly column). Now you can post your comments and read others. You ask, I answer! Send your questions to typetalk@thetypestudio.com. A complete directory of past columns is here.

Nonbreaking Hyphens ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Setting professional-looking typography is
all about attention to detail. Hyphenation is
one of these critical details: what and where
to hyphenate, and, in some cases, what not to
hyphenate. There are times you don't want
text to break at the end of a line, such as a
proper name, a phone number or a URL. But if
you leave the choice up to auto-hyphenation,
it can happen without your consent. This is
when the nonbreaking hyphen comes in handy.

Gourmet Typography Training ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bring Gourmet Typography Training right to
your company, school or organization!
Workshops are customized for groups of any
size and designed to fit your specific needs.
Sessions are scheduled for your convenience -
daytime, evenings or weekends. We will design
a program customized for your particular
requirements. "I found your training to be the missing link in the field of graphic design. I have had type classes before and the content is mostly about the structure of fonts, word usage style and then how to see type as a design element. Very important classes, but not all inclusive. Having been in the field for over 16 years, I was surprised how much I learned and some of the practical information about what to do with fonts. Thanks again."
