PSSSST! Attention, Please!
Spotlight on announcements and news of note.
THIS WEDNESDAY - New Orleans Dinner
If
you want to know more about Holy Trinity's Katrina relief and
rebuilding trips, join the mission trip veterans for dinner on
Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Depeaux
(in the restored Decatur Depot at Trinity and Howard.) There will be a
short presentation on the trips and discussion of our partnership with St. Anna's Parish
in New Orleans, plus information on upcoming trips and plenty of time
for questions, comments, and shared stories. Cost is $20 (checks
payable to Holy Trinity). We'll all order from the Depeaux's wonderful
Louisiana menu and any balance remaining will go into our St. Anna's
fund. There will be a signup sheet in the narthex after both services
on March 30, April 6, and April 13. Contact: Dot Moye, 404.377.2116, davismoye@bellsouth.net.
5/17 - Children's Eucharistic Workshop

The liberal arts college for women was founded in 1881 as Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary and set up shop in a church basement. By 1884, John D. Rockefeller became interested and helped finance the purchase of the present property. The college was renamed for his wife, Laura Spelman and her family, who had been active in the anti-slavery movement. There are many early 20th century buildings on the campus as well as modern ones. Bill Cosby is a present day benefactor. Please join us for this interesting afternoon. (Note: the change of day is to allow those who have been unable to join us on our usual Thursday.)
4/19 - Decatur Earth Day Celebration On Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., the City of Decatur, along with Decatur Recreation and Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, will host an Earth Day celebration in Harmony Park (corner of East Lake Drive and Oakview Road, Decatur).

Immediately following the dinner will be the Entertainment Revue, a celebration of music, comedy, and drama by Holy Trinity parishioners. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children, with a $50 family maximum, and will be on sale in the narthex after both services starting today. To sign up to perform at the Entertainment Revue, please contact Chris Bray at the parish office.

Following our meeting, we will enjoy our annual "end of year" potluck luncheon; bring a dish to share. All women of the parish are invited! Also, watch for information about our summer retreat day on July 12. This is always a wonderful day, spent together in visiting, meditation, explorations of the spirit and prayer. The youth of HTP are hosting a Cinco de Mayo dinner on Saturday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Tisdale Hall. The menu will be Mexican and there will be games, crafts, and a piņata. Please sign up on the sheet provided in the library. Adults: $5; children: $3; family maximum: $15. Proceeds will benefit the HTP youth fund, which makes possible life-changing youth events such as the upcoming pilgrimage to Ireland.
5/7 - 5/10 - Icon Workshop
Holy Trinity Parish is offering a class in iconography May 7-10. Students will render the Christ Pantocrator (pictured at right) from the 6th century, which is located in St Catherine's in the Sinai. This is not an art class. You do not need to be a draftsman or a painter to paint, or "write", a beautiful icon. This is a class of prayer. Each class begins with the priest blessing everyone's hands. Work is done mostly in silence with Gregorian chants or other quiet music in the background. At the end of the class the icons will be blessed.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday's class from 9 to 3 p.m. Tuition for the class is $150 and includes instruction, prepared boards, brushes, gold leaf and pigments. Registration is due by April 25 and a deposit of $75 is required. You will only need to bring a rag for paint, a bottle for water and a towel to protect your icon.
Instructors Judy Langford and Sandy Kezar (mother of parishioner Hildreth Stafford!) are from Bradenton, Florida. They have taught two classes at Holy Trinity as well as classes in New York, Texas and Florida. Both are established artists with works in both public and private collections.
For more information and registration please call Holy Trinity Parish at 404-377-2622. If you have questions about the class please call or email Sandy Kezar at 813-385-9956 or kzsand7@aol.com.
