NEW IN THIS ISSUE
Notice the new "AROUND THE DIOCESE" section of the E-News (at the bottom, after all the Holy Trinity-related news.) There we'll highlight events of interest happening in the wider Episcopal community outside Holy Trinity. You'll find brief "teaser" versions of these announcements in your news insert of your Sunday morning bulletin, but you can find the full information and (links to more information!) in your E-News each week.
THIS SUNDAY
Plan Ahead - ING Marathon Runs Through Decatur This Sunday!
The ING Marathon route runs through Decatur square this Sunday -- it comes down Clairmont Rd, down Ponce in front of the courthouse in the square, and then turns by the Methodist church and follows Commerce around to E College. Check out www.inggeorgiamarathon.com for more information and a map of the route. The first runners will arrive in Decatur around 8 a.m. and affected street lanes will be closed until approximately 11:30 a.m., so folks arriving for both services at HTP will be affected. Make sure you plan ahead the route you're going to take and give yourself extra time to get here and find parking on Sunday!
Guest Preacher at Both Services
Tracy Wells, Holy Trinity's communications coordinator, will preach at both services on Sunday. Tracy holds a master of theological studies from Harvard Divinity School and is a graduate of Resurrection House, an Episcopal internship for young adults in Omaha, Nebraska. She is in discernment for the priesthood in the Diocese of Atlanta.
Kirkin' o' the Tartans at 10:30 At the 10:30 service, we will celebrate our annual Kirkin' o' the Tartans ceremony. This ancient ceremony pays tribute to the bravery and religious fervor of the Scottish spirit and includes a traditional blessing of the garb of the Highland Scot. Bagpipes and drums will play an important role in this service.
Everyday Faith for Men Meeting "Everyday Faith for Men," an opportunity for the
men of HTP to come together on Sunday mornings for conversation about
faith and life, concluded our Lenten meetings last Sunday. However,
there seems to be an interest in coming back together for something
similar to these gatherings in the future. All those who attended or
wanted to but never quite made it over to Trinity House are invited to
join Fr. Sandlin (Allan!) and the other leaders for a conversation
about the future this Sunday morning, March 30, at 9:15. We'll meet in the usual place for about half an hour or so to discuss the options.

WORSHIP & THE ARTS
4/6-Daughters of the King Induction All Daughters are urged to attend the 10:30 a.m. service on April 6, when there will be a Service of Admission to Daughters of the King for the two newest Daughters and the Daughters of the King will be recognized during the service.
4/12 - Organ Recital at Spivey Hall On Sat. April 12 at 3 p.m., there will be a recital at Spivey Hall featuring the four very gifted organ students of Alan Morrison from The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Alan grew up at Holy Trinity, was confirmed by Bishop
Sims, and feels extremely close ties with his home Church, where his
parents are members (Don and Jeannine Morrison). Alan is now head of the organ deptartment at Curtis and is a Curtis Graduate, having earned degrees in organ and the master's degree in piano, chamber music and accompanying. Alan is under management and has played recitals in many parts of the world. For ticket information, contact Spivey Hall at 678-466-4200.
4/13 - Joint Worship With Temple Kehillat Chaim.
On Sunday, April 13, Rabbi Harvey Winokur (pictured at left), Cantor Barbara Margulis (pictured at right), and the adult choir from Temple Kehillat Chaim, a Reform Jewish congregation in Roswell, will join us at Holy Trinity for our 10:30 a.m. worship service. HT parishioners may recall that our clergy and choir participated in an interfaith Shabbat service at Kehillat Chaim in January. Rabbi Winokur will address our congregation about Passover, which begins this year on the evening of Saturday, April 19. Our combined choirs will sing a setting of the appointed psalm for the day, Psalm 23, and also an anthem during the Offertory.
4/20 - Youth and Children's Sunday On this festive day we will showcase the gifts of Holy Trinity's youth and children. Young people will serve as liturgical ministers at the 8:00 and 10:30 services. The 10:30 service will also include chancel dramas by the youth and by the Rotation Sunday School children, music from Faith Factory and the youth, and the Rite-13 ceremony, which marks the beginning of the transition to adulthood for youth in the Rite-13 class. Contact: Chris Bray, bray@htparish.com
4/27 - Spring Rector's Forum
Author Caroline Westerhoff, the retired canon for ministry for the Diocese of Atlanta, will be our guest for the spring Rector's Forum on Sunday, April 27.

PARISH LIFE
Help Needed With Repairs. Are you handy with tools? Here at HTP, just like at your home, there are a lot of jobs that need to be done, ranging from hanging coat racks in the pre-school to planing down a door that is sticking. If you can do these chores at home, could you help out here at HTP? With sufficient response we can share the load and keep the time required to a minimum. Please contact John Leonard at 404-641-0330 or johnleon@bellsouth.net. We need your help.

We will include prayer time, sharing time, and our monthly program, discussion of the book by Barbara Brown Taylor, Home by Another Way. All women of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend our meetings and see what Daughters of the King is about! 4/16 - New Orleans Dinner
If you want to know more about Holy Trinity's Katrina relief and rebuilding trips, join the mission trip veterans for dinner on Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Depeaux (in the restored Decatur Depot at Trinity and Howard.) There will be a short presentation on the trips and discussion of our partnership with St. Anna's Parish in New Orleans, plus information on upcoming trips and plenty of time for questions, comments, and shared stories. Cost is $20 (checks payable to Holy Trinity). We'll all order from the Depeaux's wonderful Louisiana menu and any balance remaining will go into our St. Anna's fund. There will be a signup sheet in the narthex after both services on March 30, April 6, and April 13. Contact: Dot Moye, 404.377.2116, davismoye@bellsouth.net.
4/19 - Decatur Earth Day Celebration On Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., the City of Decatur, along with Decatur Recreation and Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, will host an Earth Day celebration in Harmony Park (corner of East Lake Drive and Oakview Road, Decatur).

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children, with a $50 family maximum, and will be on sale in the narthex after both services starting today. 5/7 - 5/10 - Icon Workshop
Judy Langford and Sandy Kezar (Hildreth Stafford's mother) will be offering an icon workshop at HTP from May 7-10. This is NOT an art class - you do not need to be a draftsman or a painter to "write" a beautiful icon. This is a class of prayer. We work mostly in silence, with Gregorian chant in the background. The class begins with the priest blessing our hands and ends with the blessing of our completed icons. The cost is $150 and covers all materials. You will only need to bring a rag for paint, a bottle for water and a towel to protect your icon. Questions? Contact Sandy at 813-385-9956 or KzSand7@aol.com. Fr. Deneke has taken both of the previous icon workshops at Holy Trinity and can probably answer many of your questions as well. Spread the word to anyone you think might be interested!

United Thank Offering
Are you remembering to drop coins of gratitude in the UTO box sitting on your desk at work or on the kitchen table? If you haven't picked one up yet, those little boxes are available in the narthex this morning for you to take one home. And while you're visiting the UTO display, take a moment to write a note of thanks on a post-it note and add it to the board. You'll enjoy looking over the thanksgivings already posted on the board. Each Sunday a sampling of these will be included in the prayers of the people, reminding us all to give thanks to God for showers of blessings.
THE CLEAN WATER PROJECT IN HAITI Holy Trinity is pleased to begin supporting the Clean Water Project in Haiti in cooperation with Food for the Poor, a global relief organization.
Thanks to this exciting initiative, 55,000 - 75,000 people in
Cap-Haitien and Port au Prince have clean drinking water now.
(Formerly, they relied on rainwater collected in open ditches near
sewage.) A similar project for 13 wells in Port de Paix is under construction, scheduled for completion this spring. Funding from Holy Trinity will provide thousands of people, including many children, with clean water. (One well costs $4,075.) To date over $24,500 has been contributed by Holy Trinity parishioners. Contribution envelopes are available in the narthex. For more information, contact Susan Hunsinger, Millennium Development Goals chairperson or Ed Buckley, Haitian Clean Water Project coordinator, at 404.373.1903.
Bring Food Contributions for DEAM Every Sunday
The Outreach Committee encourages everyone, as a discipline of the Christian life, to bring at least one non-perishable food item for DEAM (Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry) each Sunday.
In January alone, DEAM distributed over 2.5 tons of food to those in need in our community! Food items can be placed in a basket in the library area, and will be brought forward with the other gifts during the worship service. (Sign up in the library area if you would like to serve by bringing the gifts forward during the offertory.)
Please bring food staples (not unusual or exotic foods), and remember healthy and special diets. Please do not bring dented cans or out-of-date (expired) foods. Older DEAM clients sometimes have health problems like diabetes and heart problems so low sodium and low or fat free foods are good. Juices are appropriate, but please, no candy or junk foods. Thanks for sharing and God bless!

By the Way...
An excerpt from Bishop Alexander's Easter Message
...I am always impressed (and humbled) by the faithfulness of our
parishes and our people to the keeping of a Holy Lent. The prayer, the
disciplines, the courses of study, the sacrifices, the works of
charity, the endless liturgies of Holy Week, and all the rest, surely
form and shape us in to being more like Jesus, more loving, more
generous, and more welcoming of all. Let's imagine, then,
that we devoted as much attention to the Great Fifty Days of Easter.
Imagine what might happen if we spent as much time praying that Christ
rise from the dead in us. Imagine what might happen if we approached
the fifty days of resurrection rejoicing with as much intentionality,
discipline and faithfulness as we did the forty days of Holy Lent.
Imagine what might happen if we were able to let go of our attachments
and truly live in the power of the Resurrection. Imagine living life in
imitation of Jesus on Resurrection morning - unbounded! The very thought of such a thing causes me to tremble. Tremble. Tremble. Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
Blessings! The Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander
Bishop, Diocese of Atlanta
