TONIGHT - Interfaith Shabbat Service at Temple Kehillat Chaim
Holy
Trinity has been invited by the rabbi, cantor, and congregation of
Temple Kehillat Chaim, a Reform Jewish congregation in Roswell (1145
Green Street), to join with them in an interfaith Shabbat service on
Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at 7:30 pm. (Shabbat,
the Hebrew word for "sabbath," is the Jewish day of rest, observed from
Friday at sundown through Saturday at sundown.) Fr. Deneke will address
the congregation on the tenets of our Episcopal faith, and both adult
choirs will combine to sing several anthems and lead the singing during
the evening liturgy.
Holy Trinity has had a long association
with Temple Kehillat Chaim - our Director of Music & Organist Keith
Nash has served as their accompanist since 1986. There will be a
reception following the service in the social hall. A map with nearby
restaurants will be available at the front reception desk.
For more on Shabbat: Wikipedia Judaism 101 (Note: This site is written from an Orthodox perspective. Orthodox Jews are generally more religiously conservative/strictly observant. The congregation we will be partnering with is a Reform congregation. Reform Jews have varying degrees to which they observe the Sabbath prohibitions against work. See the Wikipedia article for more on this. "Orthodox" and "Reform" are two different types of Judaism, much as we have different denominations (Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist, etc) within Christianity.)

WORSHIP & THE ARTS
Baptism Workshop Tomorrow There will be a baptism workshop tomorrow, Jan. 12, for all those being baptized this Sunday and their families, in the Gaylord Room. Contact Fr. Allan Sandlin, sandlin@htparish.com for details.

Welcome Isaac & Emma! This Sunday we welcome Isaac Adams Robson and Emma Katherine Mayer Clark into our parish family. We will baptize Isaac at the 10:30 service, and Emma was baptized at the chapel at Covecrest Camp, a Roman Catholic retreat center in Tiger, Ga., on Nov. 18, 2007. Isaac is the son of Donald and Audrie Robson, born March 31, 2007. Emma is the daughter of Kate Mayer and Craig Clark, born May 7, 2007.
Adult Choir to Participate in Diocesan MLK Concert
Our adult choir is one of five choirs from throughout the diocese invited to sing at the sixth annual concert in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (pictured left) at the Cathedral of St. Philip on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Sponsored by the anti-racism commission of the diocese, the program will include composers from Africa and throughout the African diaspora from all time periods and musical styles. Our adult choir will perform two anthems whose texts are poems from the pen of Langston Hughes, a great African American writer and poet of the 20th century. Dr. André Thomas, director of choral activities at Florida State University, has used Hughes' poems to craft two beautiful compositions. Parishioner Jeannine Morrison will accompany the choir. The concert is free, and no tickets are required for admission.
Amati Chamber Music and Friends.
Join us on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. for an afternoon of music for strings beginning with the music of J. S. Bach for solo cello and ending with the grand Sextet in B flat, Op. 18, by Johannes Brahms. Our associate rector, Allan Sandlin, will be playing viola in the Brahms and is delighted to be playing with these excellent young musicians.
