Greetings:
Food is the most pervasive drug that we will ever put into our bodies and at some point and in some way many of us will use food to cope with stress.
The Stress, Eat, Gain Cycle:If you have ever come home from work and found yourself armed with a spoon standing in front of an open freezer alternating between the ice cream and anything chocolate, WELCOME HOME, you are among friends!
Self Sabotage:
Later, after the ice cream assault you feel horrible about yourself but there is nothing you can do now. Bulimia is an eating disorder with a title. Binge eating due to stress has no title but is just as dangerous and detrimental to your health. You did it, you put on another 5 pounds and even your glasses feel tight. So you eat because you are stressed about the fact that you gained 5 pounds and the cycle continues.
Research has shown that anxiety can make you;
a. sleep fewer hours,
b. get sick more often,
c. remember less,
d. become more prone to long-term disease and,
e. eat more.
Up to 90 percent of doctor visits are for stress-related complaints; upset stomach, back pain, a headache or other symptoms.
We understand what causes stress; Work, No Work, Family, Health, Moving, Mortgages, Relationships, No Relationship, Children, Parents, Kids, Money, The Economy, Loss, Life, basically anything and everything.
7 Ways To Break The Cycle:
1. Acknowledge that stress is NOT going to go away: Stress will be a permanent fixture in all of our lives. Since its going to be around we should have some tools to manage it well.
"Some pray for the storm to stop, others just pray for the strength and courage to make it through any storm."
2. Set Your Priorities: Focus on what is really important to you first and then your family. Everything else can wait or be deleted as it's not a priority.
"Focus is about saying NO."
3. Achievements vs. Activities: Spend your time and money on results focused actions.
Be 100% CLEAR ABOUT THIS:
a. Wandering aimlessly around a gym without a clear results focused plan in a waste of time and money, and
4.Embrace the present, learn from it and move forward: You are where you should be in life, there are lessons to be learned and things are as they should be right now. Accept this fact and be open to the signs of change.
"What risk do you have in believing that there is a plan for you and that you are living it?"
5. Let Go: Try to relax, the economy will turn around, life moves in cycles. Just do the best you can each day.
