Quick tips to keep YOU healthy, sane, and productive all week long.

Dan JensenGreetings!

Do you know that if you repeat something often enough (even if it's not true), you'll begin to believe it? That's why I believe it's critical to think positive thoughts - and use affirmations to help you make healthy changes in your life.

This past week I attended a program that was co-led by Dan Jansen, the former Olympic speed skater. He shared his dramatic story of how he won the gold after a couple of tragic falls in the previous Olympics. Read his motivating story below.

Don't forget, this month only, for every purchase of books and products at www.drjo.com, I'll include my "Eat for Energy" section of my Reboot book. You'll find details about simple modifications about how you can get more energy into your day. This offer is NOT mentioned on my website. Every order will be sent out with this information. But, only for orders in the month of December!

PS if you want to give the gift of health, check out my "No Big Deal Diet" or "How to Stay Healthy & Fit on the Road" book, exercise resistant bands or pedometers.

Speed Up
Playing in the Snow

Brrr. It's been cold down here in Florida - and cross country skiingseems to be colder everywhere else. Makes me want to plan a snow trip someplace. This is a picture of me cross country skiing in Lake Tahoe a few years ago. I like downhill skiing even better.

Yesterday, my sister from New Hampshire called me and we got to talking about old times. She reminded me of the time she visited me at SUNY at Plattsburgh and watched me play intermural Broomball (ice hockey with brooms instead of sticks and sneakers instead of skates). LOL, I forgot all about that!

What fun things do you do to "play" (and burn calories) during the winter? Send an email to contact@drjo.com and let me know what you do for fun.

Slow Down
Positive Affirmations

Here's an excellent example of how what we say to ourselves and others can dramatically change our lives.

Dan Jensen had been speed skating much of his life and had won many awards including "World Sprint Champion" the week before the 1988 Olympics. But at the Olympic games, after hearing of the death of his sister, Jane, on the morning of the race, Dan fell in his favorite 500 meters. He then fell again in the 1000 meters a few days later.

He didn't do well in the 1992 Olympics, and wanted to succeed on his final attempt at the 1994 Olympics. He sought out the help of performance psychologist, Jim Loehr, who helped him with positive affirmations to overcome his fears. Since Dan overwhelmingly preferred the 500 meters, Jim also worked with him to enjoy the 1000 meter race as well.

At this past week's program, Dan shared the story about how he laughed when Jim told him to write "I love the 1000 meter" and place these notes all around his house. So, each time he opened the refrigerator or went into the bathroom, he faithfully read the notes. And, he was even more surprised when a reporter asked him which was his favorite race and he responded, "I love the 1000 meter." ("Did I just say that?", he asked himself). Turns out that's the race he won the gold in, too! Our thoughts really CAN influence our destiny.

Each of the above articles are designed to educate you about research or what I or others do to stay healthy, sane, and productive. Always check with your medical doctor and other health professionals (including a registered dietitian) before starting any new diet or exercise program.

Thanks for inviting me into your life this Monday morning. If you enjoyed this newsletter, please forward it onto a friend.
