Quick tips to keep YOU healthy, sane, and productive all week long.
|
Greetings!
Took a walk yesterday at the Sagamore Resort in the Lake George area of upstate New York. Since we're still swimming in Orlando, it was refreshing to feel the cool breeze of the afternoon and look at the changing leaves. As I write this note, it's 6am and weather.com reports the current temperature as 32 degrees. Brrrr. I'm speaking to the WIC of New York on "Reboot: how to stay focused, energized, and more productive" at 9am. So I guess I still have time for another way. Where are my mittens?
Hope you have a great week. Dr. Jo

Speed Up:
Pickleball
Ever heard of pickleball? Me, neither. But, according to the Oct 15th Wall Street Journal, it's an up and coming sport. It's described as a cross between tennis, ping pong, and badminton. And, supposedly, it's the rage of the "older crowd" who enjoy the challenge on a court smaller than a tennis court. The article mentioned "The Villages" which is an hour or so north of Orlando, but I've never seen the sport myself. Just shows how many ways there are to burn calories!

How Do You Burn Calories Dr. Jo wants to know!

For years I've been writing about interesting ways to "play" (some people call this exercise). I would love to know how YOU get your giggles - and burn the calories. Would you please send me your stories - and pictures? And, let me know if I have your permission to share in my enewsletter - or in my upcoming book, "Eat Play Laugh." Write to me at contact@drjo.com. |

Focus On:
Three Questions for your Sanity Some people see the positive people of everything. My friend, after her cancer recovery, told me that "Cancer was like manure...it stinks, but makes good fertilizer. She then went on to report all the good changes that resulted from her disease. Then, there are negative people. No matter what happens, no matter how trivial a situation, it seems that everyone is out to get them. If confronted with a health problem, they figure there's nothing they can do...so they do nothing. Where do you fall into this spectrum? Chances are, you're mostly positive, but you are struggling with one aspect of your life. In my program, Getting Unstuck from the Inside Out," I ask participants these three questions: - What area of your life is most out of whack?
- What's your excuse? In other words, how do you explain why it's out of whack - to you and others. Chances are you're using negative language such as, "I have no time, I have bad genes, I can't afford to do anything, there's nothing I can do..."
- How can you reframe this? You might first research your issue to find some proof that there is some hope. For example, if you think it's bad genes, ask yourself, "Who else has genes like mine and has been able to conquer this issue?" There's a good chance that there are many who have. Get inspiration from them and develop your own personal mantra to reframe the situation for you. An example is, "I am strong and determined or" "I am getting better and better every day."
