Quick tips to keep YOU healthy, sane, and productive all week long.

Greetings!

One second I was paddling and chatting with my ocean-touring colleagues, the next moment I was
Paddleboarding
laying supine in the midnight black ocean water swathed in a thick layer of sea weed. Ugh.

We were paddleboarding out along the islands in the Merritt Island National Seashore during a bioluminescence tour in the pitch blackness of this past Saturday evening.

According to the New World Encyclopedia, bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism as the result of a chemical reaction during which chemical energy is converted to light energy.

A very cool green glow is given off by the movement of the boards. Each paddle stroke leaves behind a eery green trail. And, though the evening is pitch black, you can clearly see the paths of the fish as they swim by. Way cool...well, except for the fall! Shcoking, but luckily, both the air and water were still comfortably warm.

Hope you had a restful and fun weekend, too. Have a fabulous week!

Eat Out
Ruby Tuesdays

The other evening we dined at Ruby Tuesdays Restaurant. The menu lists a number of "Fit & Trim" choices with under 700 calories. Have you tried any?

We ordered the Chicken Fresco - a fresh, all-natural grilled chicken breast topped with vine-ripened tomatoes, lemon-butter sauce, and a splash of balsamic vinaigrette. The calories count, along with white cheddar mashed potatoes and steamed brocolli (but not counting the biscuits that are served before dinner) was 670. Tasty!

Speed Up:

Walk This Way

Americans are sedentary. Researchers

No programming!

compared 1,136 U.S. adults wearing pedometers with adults involved in similar studies in Australia, Japan and Switzerland. The Australians won...with about twice as many steps (9695 vs 5117) as the Americans.

Could that be why USA's 34% adult obesity rate is more than double Australia's 16%?

How many steps are you taking every day? I offer two pedometers on my website. One requires no programming (and just $15)...just keeps track of the steps you take. It's a great way to make sure you're active. Check it out.

Focus On:
Staying on Your Board of Life!

Life is no different from my paddleboarding experience in the above article. All of us, no matter how stable our lives appear to be...have to be ready for when we get out of balance. It inevitably happens with an illness, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship.

And, if you want to get back up on the safety of the board...instead of struggling in the sea weed, keep these things in mind:
  • Get Support - when I fell off the board, I immediately reached for my paddle. For without a paddle, there was little chance of making it back to shore. When you fall off your board of life, having support of friends, family, and even information is critical. Don't try to do it alone. Ask yourself, who can I reach out to?
  • Don't Panic - It's scary when you find yourself ill, laid-off, or divorced. But, are you going to wallow in the sea weed of life, or jump pack on the board?
  • Release the Weeds - As I jumped back on the board, I took with me gallons of sea weed. Even after I got back on my way, I was forever reaching down and pulling sea weed off my legs and arms. Same thing happens after a fall from life. There always seems to be some leftover "garbage" that clings to you. Keep on pulling it off - don't let it get you down.
Each of the above articles are designed to educate you about research or what I or others do to stay healthy, sane, and productive. Always check with your medical doctor and other health professionals (including a registered dietitian) before starting any new diet or exercise program.

Thanks for inviting me into your life this Monday morning. If you enjoyed this newsletter, please forward it onto a friend.
