Quick tips to keep YOU healthy, sane, and productive all week long.
|
Greetings!
What did you do this weekend? I had some fun, too, but John and I spent way too much time installing our new Murphy bed in the guest room. That's one of those beds that sits upright in an armoire-type cabinet when not in use, but pulls down when needed. The instructions suggested it would take 3-4 hours to install. I think the hyphen was a typo...because it was far closer to 34 hours! But, in the end, it looks beautiful and gives the room a lot more space. If you've got a goal in your life, that seems to take way more time to accomplish than you initially thought (or that others suggested), please don't give up. Take it in baby steps, look at how far you've come, and keep on persevering! You'll appreciate all that effort in the long run. I hope you have a perfectly wonderful week! |

Eat In:
NuGo Dark Chocolate Bars
Perhaps you've already picked up on this fact...I love chocolate, especially dark chocolate. No "Death by Chocolate" binges. Instead, I enjoy small doses of chocolate on a nearly daily basis. It could be in the form of a handful of dark chocolate kisses, a 1" X 1" Double Chocolate Ghiradelli brownie, or the ear off an Easter bunny...but I gotta have my fix. The other day I discovered NoGo Dark Chocolate bars. As you know, I always keep bars in my car, briefcase, and purse. A couple of times a week, these bars save me from hunger when a real meal is just not available because of late flights, traffic jams, or whatever. NoGo Dark Chocolate bars have 190 calories, 10g protein...and are made with REAL dark chocolate. None of that waxy stuff! For more information, go to www.nogonutrition.com. |

Speed Up:
Get Lost in a Movie "Working out" was never in my 50 year old girlfriend's vocabulary... until last November when she underwent open heart surgery for a severe case of mitral valve prolapse. And, after six weeks of cardiac rehab, she was hooked on exercise. After cardiac rehab ended, she went looking for a fitness centers and chose Just Fitness in Roswell, GA. Why? Because they have a "Cardio Movie Theatre" with a 150" screen. She says she goes in the darkened room to do a 20-30 minute on the aerobic equipment and ends up staying for more than an hour because the non-stop movies make her forget about time. How cool is that? |

Slow Down:
Or You'll Shrink Your Brain!!
In a threatening situation...say, when the car in front of you slams on his brakes...your body responds by secreting stress hormones. Those hormones raise your blood pressure, increase your heart rate, and send blood and nutrients to your muscles so you can respond quickly. This is good.
But, every time you get emotionally upset, those stress hormones kick in, too! Sometimes, that heart racing, blood pressure soaring reaction can get us into trouble...prompting us to say things we shouldn't. Not so good.
And, now, recent rat studies demonstrate that prolonged, chronic stress can shrink the brain. So, don't sweat the small stuff, ok?
