Quick tips to keep YOU healthy, sane, and productive all week long.
|
Greetings!
Even though I keep my weight quite stable for 30 years (within five pounds), I've noticed, throughout the years, that it's always few pounds higher in the winter. And, it's already beginning to come down.
Have you started to shed some of that winter fat yet? If not, it's time to get outside and have fun, eat more fresh foods, and enjoy the relaxing nature of the fresh air.
This week's enews covers four tips to help you make it through the week - more healthy, sane, and productive. Enjoy!
Meanwhile, I'm working hard to update my Dining Lean book for 2010 - so I'd better get back to work....Talk to you next week! |

Accusplit Pedometer
To increase fitness levels, it's recommended most Americans take 10,000 steps a day. That's about 4 miles. How far are you walking? Clip a pedometer onto your waist band every day to find out.
Two different Accusplit Pedometers are available - both are certified accurate and provide ACCUSPLIT's 5-Year, No Proof of Purchase Warranty. One measures steps only (and require no programming), the other converts those steps into mileage.

Eat In:
Spicy, Flavorful
Honestly, sometimes I get bored of my own cooking. The reason I often get nicknamed, "The Fast Food Queen" is that I appreciate getting my food quickly - without having to spend time in the kitchen. Sure, there are simple ways to cook food, but if you don't add any seasoning...well, it's just plain boring.
Lately, I've been cooking a bit more with fresh herbs and spices. This week I prepared Rosemary Chicken (with a whole chicken). It's simple, just:
- Chop the leaves of five or six springs fresh rosemary
- Add 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
- Mix in a large tablespoon of chopped garlic (I buy it by the jar)
- Add salt and pepper, if you want (I didn't)
- Pull away the skin on the breast and spread some of the seasoning, cut some thin slices on the thigh and put some there, then spread the rest on the skin.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1.5-2hrs (depending on size) - about 20 minutes per pound.
It beats the grocery store ready-made chicken any day. |
Slow Down:
A Day of Rest
Most of us work Monday through Friday, then work at home all weekend. Or, if you're self-employed like me, you might even be tempted to work everyday! I've been trying hard to take at least one full-day off every week...no housework, no business work, even ignoring the email that pops up on my iphone! Just like sleep is necessary to reboot our brain, so is a day of relaxation. I deserve a day of rest...don't you? |

Speed Up:
Workout with (New) Friends One of my single friends just signed up for a three year contract with an event planning company - at $100 a month! They plan a calendar with events every day so that you can meet other single people doing fun things. I think she wasted her money. I reminded her (and I wanted to remind you, too), that most large communities offer lots of events through www.Meetup.com - and there's no joining fee. Mind you, this isn't just for singles - it's just that there ARE a lot of singles that go to these events. I found my running group in Atlanta through this group. John and I have gone on several planned kayaking trips. And, we got into 1930's swing dancing because of some meetup dance group events. Now, to be clear, there are plenty of non-active meetups, including networking and book group meetings. But, if you want to be more active, it's a good place to try out new activities and meet new people. |
Eat Out:
Tiny Tastes I eat six times a day...and have done so for 30 years. Eating frequently just makes me feel more energized. While it's easy to snack healthy at home, it's a bit more difficult when I'm on the road. Just yesterday John and I stopped at Del Taco (a Mexican fast-food restaurant) and tried two small tacos - and they flavorful and delicious! Reminded me of Spanish Tapas. They included: - Steak Taco Del Carbon - 210 calories, 8g fat
- Chicken Taco Del Carbon - 150 calories, 5g fat
Both tacos included California chili sauce, onions, fresh cilantro...served in a pair of warm corn tortillas. PS Del Taco restaurants are all over the west...and just more recently has moved across the country. |
