KISS: Keep it Simple & Smart! |
|
"Simple" seems to be paying off. According to a report by Datamonitor, there was a 64.7% increase in new products using terms "simple" or "simply" in the product or brand name from 2005 to 2008.
And, Lynn Dornblaser, trend analyst at Mintel states that products with fewer ingredients will continue to garner gains in 2010.

| Chefs Don't Want to Mess with Success |
|
Research shows that people who eat out more often, tend to be heavier. Portions are generally 2-4 times larger than what government recommended portion sizes.
So, researchers at Clemson and Pennsylvania State Universities asked 433 experienced chefs to complete questionnaires on the nutrition content of meals. The researchers recently presented these findings at the annual meeting of the Obesity Society:
- Most chefs say they are familiar with the calorie content of the foods on their menu
- They are split about placing calorie counts on the menu: 33% say it would help restaurants sales while 38% say it would hurt sales
- They would rather introduce new lower-calorie menu items than reduce the calories in an existing menu item.

McDonald's is Different in India |
|
Since the majority of India's 1.22 billion people are Hindus (and don't eat cows) or Muslim (who don't eat pork), beef and pork are both off the menu at the 170 McDonald's outlets in India.
The menu consists of interesting vegetarian (even the cheese and mayo are vegetarian) and non-vegetarian items such as:
- McAloo Tikki sandwich - fried breaded potato and peas patty (vegetarian)
- McVeggie
- Pizza McPuff
- Chicken Maharaja Mac
Check out the McDonald's India menu.
Did you know that President Obama's dinner in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also vegetarian? The menu consisted of potato and eggplant salad, red lentil soup and roasted potato dumplings or green curry prawns.
