Inexpensive Promotion Ideas

Whether you counsel clients, speak at conferences, or consult with companies, it's important to let people know who you are and what you do. Chances are you don't have money for billboard signs, so how else can you get their attention? Here are some ideas:
  • Look the part. If you're promoting "health", you'd better look the part. If you're promoting "life balance", be sure to get your life in balance.
  • Always keep business cards with you. You never know when you might meet a potential client. Personally, I think putting your photo on the cards makes YOU more memorable. I know many people who purposely give out 2 cards so they have an extra card to share - hey, cards just cost pennies, right?
  • Tell people what you do. Don't be shy - offer your professional 10 second introduction somewhere in the conversation. You have developed a well-scripted one that doesn't sound well-scripted, haven't you? Don't go over 10 seconds - they will ask if they want to know more about you.
  • Collect their business cards. And, make a few notes about the conversation so you'll remember them.
  • Follow-up. So many times we get great leads, but we let them dry up. Be sure to pick up the phone a few days after the conference to touch base.
  • ASK FOR IT. Ah, this is most important - something I always have to remind myself to do. Let's just say you're a speaker. Perhaps the person you've just met isn't a meeting planner. So...ask them if their company puts on any conferences, or if they know of any groups that hire speakers. When people compliment you about what you do, ask them if they know of someone else that can use your product or service. Go ahead, don't be shy - ask for it!

What tips do you have? Send me an email about what you do to get balance back in your life.
