Money Making Idea:

Magazine Publishing

Light bulb idea
Let me first say that I know nothing about this. But, I found this New York Times article intriguing enough to share with you. There's a company called Printcasting that allows YOU, the aspiring magazine or newspaper editor, to write your own articles, select others off the site, add ads, and then voila...print off your very own magazine starting at $10 a pop.
Greetings!,

2009 ADA 5K runThis summer has been insane - lots of travel (both for business and personal) and my to-do list didn't get much shorter. That's why I greatly enjoyed the article mentioned below on time management.

PS Don't forget to read the quote at the very bottom - a classic from the infamous broadcast journalist, Walter Cronkite, who passed away on July 17th.

To a productive rest of July!

How to Get It All Done

Last week I received an email from a woman that I coach. It included a long list of what she's done and what she needs to do and then added, "How can I get it all done?" My answer? "You never will." Sad, but true.

There will never be enough time to do everything we want to do. The important thing is to get the important things done. And, for our business to succeed, it's critical that we spend at least some time working on OUR goals, rather than just putting out fires.

If you ever find yourself ambushed by other people's needs, urgent emails and phone calls...and never seem to have enough time to do the things you planned to do, read this article on the Harvard Business website about an 18 minute plan to keep on track.

Author, Peter Bregman, CEO of Bregman Partners, Inc., a global management consulting firm, suggests:
  • Take 5 minutes to list what you need to do (before you even turn on your computer) to further your goals. Then set aside time on your calendar - with the hardest things earlier in the day.
  • Set an alarm every hour to examine your calendar. Are you on task? If you're not, it's time to recommit and readjust.
  • At the end of the day, shut off your computer and take 5 minutes to review your day. "What worked? Where did you focus? Where did you get distracted? What did you learn that will help you be more productive tomorrow?"
PS in the article, he also referenced Jack LaLanne, 94 year old fitness guru. I found out that Mr. LaLanne sticks to a routine for his fitness routine. Every morning, for the first two hours he works out - 90 minutes with weights, then 30 minutes of running or swimming! "He needs to do so to achieve his goals: on his 95th birthday he plans to swim from the coast of California to Santa Catalina Island, a distance of 20 miles. Also, as he is fond of saying, 'I cannot afford to die. It will ruin my image.'"

Are you working steadily towards your goals - or always getting sidetracked? Maybe you need an 18 minute ritual for your day!
