I never intended to earn my doctorate. But, I couldn't stop it from coming to fruition. Let me explain.
At the age of 26, I was offered a position as the founding director of a coordinated undergraduate program at one of the University of Texas locations. And, frankly, I didn't have the foggiest idea of what I was doing.
Luckily, on week one, I found out Texas A&M was teaching a graduate level course called, Program Development. It was so helpful to me. Then, my director told me I had to start doing some research...and, thank goodnesss, Texas A&M was teaching Statistics that semester. It seemed that every semester they were teaching the exact course I needed at that time in my career.
Shortly after I tried to register for my 7th course and they told me that I couldn't until I submitted my Program of Study - that's a formal submission of what courses I'd be taking each semester, when I'd be starting my research, and when I plan to graduate. I tried to tell them I wasn't working on my doctorate - just taking classes, but rules were rules.
So, I developed my Program of Study. And, like clockwork, I finished my degree on schedule. And, in under two years I got the program nationally accredited by ADA.
See...when you put things down in writing, with as much detail as possible, they tend to come to fruition.
Do you have a vision of where you want to be in 5 years? 10 years? Do you have a written business plan? No? What are you waiting for?
Get started...put it down in writing...it just may come true!
