Money Making Idea:
Sell Other People's Stuff
Light bulb idea
Are you counseling patients or giving presentations? Do you ever promote other people's products, books, and programs?

Well, why don't you contact those people - and let them know that you think their stuff is way cool! Many companies have affiliate programs which allow you to earn a referral fee.

Books can often be purchased at a quantity discount directly from the publisher. Unless you're looking at huge numbers, it's best to locate dietitians who self-publish their books. They often sell at a 30-40% discount so you can make a profit when you resell them to your clients.

Interested in re-selling my books - such as Dining Lean? Send me an email and let's talk.
Acai BerryHave you ever introduced yourself as a "dietitian" or "Registered Dietitian"? What kind of response do you get?

A blank stare? Some negative comment about the local hospital's food service? A litany of excuses as to why they don't eat "perfect"?

Is that the kind of response you wanted? If your desire is to get more business, make that initial 10 second introduction work for you. Read more below.

Just 10 Seconds to Ask for Business

We often hear experts recommend preparing a 30 second "elevator" speech to tell others what we do for a living. Frankly, I think 30 seconds is a way too long...that's how long it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" THREE times. When someone meets you in an elevator and asks, "So, what do you do?", do you really think they want to hear a response as long as THREE Happy Birthdays?

Instead, prepare a dynamite 10 second introduction that gets the WOW response - chances are, it will invite a conversation - and isn't that what you want? Your introduction should include four aspects:
  1. An action verb such as help, design, empower, lead...
  2. Your (ideal) customer
  3. Benefit/problem that you solve
  4. How you accomplish this (or you can save this for when they ask you questions)

For example, in my business "I help busy people stay healthy, sane, and productive (through my books, speaking engagements, and media appearances)." Most of time I get a response such as, "Wow! I need you!" At that point I have the opportunity to let them more about what I do and how I can help them.

 Here are some other examples:
  • "I coach clients to personal success through live and telecoaching sessions."
  • "I manage a $2 million school foodservice operation which provides nutritious meals that kids enjoy"
  • "I design continuing education programs for health professionals - most are online so they can get the education they need, when it's convenient."
  • "I help professional athletes enhance their performance through superb nutrition."

Already have a powerful 10 second introduction? Send it to me and I'll share it with this group. Don't have one...well, get started!
