The Shack
by William P. Young
6 week online study beginning July 8, 2011 Location: the comfort of your own home
If your previous book studies have been face-to-face you should try one online. Just think: no travel or parking issues, you can study in your own home, and all at a time that is convenient for you even if it's in your pajamas!
The Shack, an international best seller by William P. Young, recounts one person's journey of faith in the midst of unbearable tragedy. What about this modern day parable grabs so many people and yet raises so many questions? While this book is not traditional Christian fiction it is definitely worth exploring.
Some of the questions we may discuss and ponder over the six-week study: - How can we be in relationship with the Divine?
- How can all-good and all-powerful God allow evil, suffering, and victimization of the innocent?
- Does suffering draw us closer to God or create an unbridgeable gap?
- What is universalism - and how does that affect me? Those with whom I have difficulties?
- What is God's relationship with our material world?
- Does God have a sense of humor, clumsy thumbs or delight in 'messes'?
Join us at Brigid's Place as we explore this novel with an inclusive theological lens. Please register by July 1st by contacting us at brigidsplace@brigidsplace.org or 713-590-3333. Nancy N. Hannan (a past president of Brigid's Place's and a retired physician) will facilitate the group with the Reverend Martha Frances (a retired Episcopal priest) as co-leader. |

Brigid's Place is a 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Non-Profit Organization that supports the spiritual development of women. We offer classes, lectures, discussion groups, weekend workshops and retreats where people can ask questions relating to their spiritual journeys, address their doubts, and become empowered to meet the challenges of life. We are named after St. Brigid, a fifth century Irish Celtic Saint who founded a monastery of nuns and monks based on the social concept of equality of men and women. They were known for their wisdom, compassion, hospitality, and healing.
