Vail Soul Music Festival Youth Day E-Newsletter
Youth Day is the brainchild of the Vail Soul Music Festival and is designed to create the space for younger souls to have an enriching soul music experience through interactive, hand-on opportunities. Youth Day is intended to serve 150 multi-cultural and under-served young music enthusiasts who are currently entering the 6th - 9th grades..

Youth Day Spotlight
All about the Strings

When Kisha Ortiz saw the information on the Vail Soul Youth Day, she thought it would be a good opportunity for her son, Diego, to participate and broaden his exposure to music. And she was right! Diego, along with 30 middle school students from Metro Denver and 30 from Summit County, attended the first Vail Soul Music & Mentoring program last August.
The experience was "off the hook" according to Diego. One of the highlights was meeting hip hop violinist, Lee England Jr., who played classical music as well as hip hop at the top of the mountain.

Music Fact
Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SATs in both verbal and math in comparison to students who didn't participate in the arts at all.
