Scott's Winter Ayurvedic Tips

In the winter my favorite morning tea is tulsi (holy basil) and ginger tea.  I use powdered dry ginger. You can find it in the spice section of the grocery store and just shake half a teaspoon into a cup.  I also use loose tulsi because I am not a fan of tea bags but if you are not a fan of having loose tulsi/ginger dregs in the bottom of your cup, Om Organics makes a nice Tulsi/ Ginger in a tea bag. Sourcing bulk herbs is much more economical.  You can find organic powdered dry ginger and tulsi at www.banyanbotanicals.com.

These two work together to enkindle both your digestive and mental fire and they prevent wintertime depression. They are essential when the weather is cold, you wake up feeling cold, stiff, and achy, or you have sinus or chest congestion.  If you catch a cold, triple the dose of herbs/tea bags per cup of tea and drink one every three hours.  Tulsi also has a special property for treating fever:  For bringing a fever down use two and half teaspoons of loose tulsi or five tea bags in a cup of tea.

I also like to drink tulsi before meditation because it promotes a balanced or sattvic state of mind.
