the1099 Reporting Bill Update
On March 4, 2011 the U.S. House of Representatives voted 314 -112 to repeal the change in 1099 reporting. This vote was to remove the requirement that a 1099 form be sent to all companies that you do more than $600 in business with. Now, you are only required to send a 1099 form to people or organizations that are not incorporated.
The next step is for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House to find a compromise in the two different bills they have passed. It appears that this onerous provision to the health care bill will be repealed, but until it does, we will keep you informed. |

The recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan may be the largest disaster in our lifetime. Many people feel a need to do something to help, but how do you know where to give your money and how do you know it will go to the cause and not be eaten up by administrative or fundraising expenses? If you want to verify any charitable organization you can go to www.charitynavigator.org
or you can donate to my favorite charity The Rotary Foundation www.rotary.org
100% of any contributions designated for the Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund will be used in that area. All projects will be supervised by local Rotarians who will be able to determine the best use of funds in the area.
A similar fund was set-up for Haiti and there are still hundreds of projects being reviewed, approved and are in process. Health and education needs are frequently at the top of the list. Unlike some of the emergency relief organizations, Rotary will be there for the long run. To recover from a disaster of this type will take years. |
