BRIGHTER TOMORROWS
On March 9-10, 2007 we are hosting a conference focused on childhood disabilities in co-sponsorship with The Autism Society of Washington at the Worthington Center at St. Martin's University in Lacey, WA. The array of speakers, 35 in all, is very exticing and the topics covered range from transition to adulthood through a variety of therapies. Disabilities covered are Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Tourette Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Effects, Learning Disabilities and more.

The target audience ranges from family members and friends to educators, counselors, school nurses, child care centers, health care professionals and other care providers. St. Martin's University of Lacey, WA is offering 16 clock hours for educators and a number of medical an naturopathic doctors are speaking on everything from pharmaceuticals to nutrition.

Join us, won't you?

Winter Storms
During the past week many of us in the Western Washington area were fortunate enough to experience the discomfort of power outages as well as trees and phone and electrical lines blocking passage to crucial passages. The frigid temperatures are quite humbling and the longing for a hot shower frustrating. We truly hope everyone within our reach is no longer in need of assistance and are here for those who are still in need.

While many of us will enjoy a warm celebration with family and feast, let us remember those who will go without presents and even warm clothing. We were recently informed that one of our families helped another member in such a situation and are honored to be associated with this caring family.

Welcoming the Challenged Child to Faith-Based Education
Over the past year we have received a number of calls from distraught families claiming they felt spiritually disconnected because their place of worship was unaccomodating of their child or could not understand how best to integrate the needs into the group. As we often do - we responded.

In collaboration with the Children's Institute for Learning Differences, we are hosting a workshop for religious educators, leaders and families who wish to change this dilemma. On January 13th you have the opportunity to learn that a few simple steps can make a world of difference to these families. All beliefs are welcome. For more information please call Michele Glickerman at the Children's Institute for Learning Differences at 206-232-8680 or go online...

Exceptional Families Network
A few changes are coming our way in the new year. For one, we are moving our monthly meetings to the Olympia Community Center - now every third Saturday from 1-4pm. Those hard core attendees know that the parking lot conversations will continue and even the choice of post meeting dining will now improve with more selection.

In addition, there are a few exciting changes coming in the way of a new web site for our parent network. Liferay, a web portal software developer, has agreed to host our site and allow use of all the very interesting features they offer. For those of you familiar with MyYahoo, when you register as a member, you provide bits of personal information which allow us to customize what information is shown. Example, if your child has Down Syndrome, you should no longer receive all those tidbits about Autism, unless you select them as topics of interest. We will not share your personal information with a third party, but the information you provide us will directly help our grant writing efforts with first hand information. It also helps us guage which areas of information require more attention. Anyone wanting to assist with the launch of this via design, content or other means please contact us via email at info@wyattshouse.org.
