Eric Krebs Retires After 33 Years of Dedicated Service

January 2012

Eric Krebs' career has always involved producers and travel, whether he was installing or troubleshooting equipment, selling capital equipment, molds and parts, instructing at the Blockmakers® Workshops or most recently providing support in customer service. He's enjoyed all of these roles and feels fortunate that he was offered the opportunity to change directions throughout his career. Eric lived in Virginia, Texas and Indiana before returning to Alpena, Michigan to teach at the Blockmakers in 1988 to be home to raise his two children, Jessilynn and Ben with his wife Pam.

He's had many highlights throughout his 33 year career. He cites "the aha" moment as being the most profound; that the time when the material you're teaching to a student comes together for them and they understand. According to Eric, "it's like a light bulb goes on." Watching equipment you've installed start and do what it is programmed to do, closing a sale and spending time in other parts of the world are other memories that brought satisfaction to his career and made it fulfilling.

Retirement plans for the couple include spending time with family, travel, more leisure reading, and for Eric more time to spend studying the Civil War. In addition to visiting more battle sites he's looking forward to adding to his collection of memorabilia.

Beginning on 1 February, for the next 30 days, he plans to relax, kick back and enjoy. He's been part of the work force since he was 14. Beginning on 1 February he's giving himself 30 days to enjoy having the freedom to do what he wants when he wants. Beginning in March, as an employee of Alpena Community College, he'll remain involved in the industry teaching Blockmakers classes and working on concrete related grants for the World Center for Concrete Technology. As Eric poetically stated, "Once a blockhead, always a blockhead."

We'll miss Eric's knowledge, his gift for teaching and his humor but wish he and Pam all the best as the next chapter in his life is written.
