More than 350 community and business leaders attended the DCEDC annual investors meeting on Wednesday, April 25, at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay, making it the most well attended annual meeting in DCEDC history. Keynote speaker Mark Murphy, President/CEO of the Green Bay Packers discussed "Building & Sustaining a Winning Tradition." Wood Orchard was named the Door County Industry of the Year, and Dan Schwarz, owner of Dan's Fish, received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The luncheon meeting included Executive Director Bill Chaudoir's report to the community about the activities and accomplishments of DCEDC during 2011. The meeting also included a moving tribute to the late John Collins, founder of C&S Manufacturing and an inaugural member of the DCEDC Board of Directors from 1989-1995.

Dan Schwarz, founder and owner of Dan's Fish Inc. in Sturgeon Bay (http://www.fullfish.net/dansfish.html), is the winner of the ninth annual Door County Entrepreneur of the Year Award. This year's award winner has been distributing superior products both locally and globally since his teen years. Dan Schwarz and his company have demonstrated the ability to profitably grow regardless of economic climate, effectively adapting to change and maintaining environmentally and fiscally sustainable practices. Dan's Fish, Inc. is a family operated business that specializes in fresh water fish. The company processes, distributes, exports and imports seafood from all over the world.   (Read More)

Wood Orchard LLC (http://www.woodorchard.com) is the winner of the Door County Industry of the Year Award. The annual award recognizes a local construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year. 

 

Wood Orchard is a family owned fruit farm established in 1955 by Jim and Barbara Wood, after moving their young family to cool Door County from hot and humid St. Louis, Missouri. Jim's son, Steve, and grandson, Jeff, now work together to grow about 200 acres of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and apples on the Door Peninsula. (Read More)

Buy Local LogoDCEDC announced that the corporation's recently released 2011 Annual Report to investors is now available on-line at the organization's website. The report, which was released to the public during the DCEDC annual investors meeting on April 25th, presents a look at the accomplishments of the organization over the past year.

 

"We are pleased to be able to share our annual report with the community," DCEDC Executive Director Bill Chaudoir recently said. "DCEDC continues to work hard each day to improve the economic vitality of the county and its residents, and we welcome the opportunity to share the successes of our organization."
