Commerce Secretary Will Keynote DCEDC Annual Meeting

The Door County Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the details for their annual investors meeting and luncheon on Wednesday, May 25, at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. The keynote speaker will be Paul Jadin, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. His remarks will be addressing "Wisconsin's Renewed Focus on Economic Development."
In addition to the keynote address by Secretary Jadin, the annual investors meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The luncheon meeting will also include the annual report to the community about the accomplishments of DCEDC during 2010.

| Legislative Days Postponed

In light of recent events at the state capitol, the Door Kewaunee Legislative Days scheduled for April 12-13 has been postponed; the event will be rescheduled to a future date. We look forward to hosting the fifth Legislative Days, which provides the opportunity for local citizens, business and government representatives to bring specific concerns of the community directly to elected officials and influentialgovernment appointees in Madison. A small delegation of local officials is planning an abbreviated trip to Madison during the week of May 16 to deliver a brief, targeted agenda to state officials and legislative leaders. Succession Planning Seminar

On Wednesday, May 18th, 8am-12:30pm, DCEDC and the Door County Visitor Bureau are pleased to present a free, half day seminar on succession planning for Door County business owners. The event will take place at the Paul J. Bertschinger Community Center, 7860 Highway 42, in Egg Harbor. Topics to be addressed during the half-day seminar include: Introduction to Business Succession Planning, Transitioning a Family Business, and Business Valuation. The agenda also will provide for facilitated small group discussion and networking opportunities. Speakers will include legal experts, accountants, realtors, and business owners from Door County and across the state of Wisconsin. Local Food Mixer

Representatives of local agriculture producers, chefs, restaurateurs, institutional users, consumers and supporters of sustainable, local agriculture are invited to attend the Door County Buy Local Agriculture sub-committee's Local Food Mixer event on Wednesday, April 27, 4:30-6:30pm at the Draft Haus (formerly The Reef), 901 Egg Harbor Road, Sturgeon Bay. The purpose of the event is to help connect producers, consumers, retailers and restaurateurs interested in locally produced agricultural products.
A short program will feature comments from a local grower, a local restaurateur and a local retailer on the advantages and obstacles to selling and using local foods, designed to stimulate discussion of the issues facing local producers and consumers. Following the program, the attendees will have opportunities to network and exchange information about their local businesses. Refreshments and appetizers will be served, along with a cash bar. DKBEP Golf Challenge and CNC Mobile Tech Lab ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DKBEP is pleased to announce its fourth annual benefit Golf Challenge at The Orchards Golf Course in Egg Harbor on Sunday, May 22. Last year, the event raised nearly $9,000 to support youth career awareness and workforce training initiatives such as the High School Home Construction Program, High School Certified Nursing Assistant Program and many other career awareness programs. This charity event is sponsored by American Transmission Company and Dominion Power along with Donny's Glidden Lodge Restaurant.
The DKBEP Golf Challenge is a 4-person scramble and includes golf and cart, beverages, gifts, snacks, 19th Hole Dinner Social, hole contests and fabulous door prizes. Free use of the driving range will begin at 10:30am with a shotgun start at noon. Early registration is recommended. To address the need for CNC (computer numeric control) education in the schools, to expose local youth to exciting and rewarding CNC careers, and to grow the local workforce, DKBEP has requested NWTC's help in the development of a regional CNC training and education initiative. NWTC, with the support from the Bay Area Workforce Development Board (BAWDB) and local school districts and DKBEP is moving forward with a Mobile Tech Lab which will serve all counties within the BAWDB territory. The fifth wheel trailer will be outfitted with 13 computers/workstations, Master CAM licenses as well as a mobile CNC Haas Mill & Lathe. The high school tech ed teachers will be certified to teach the NWTC CNC courses and a driver will also be certified and act as an aide. The Mobile Tech Lab will provide CNC training to the area high schools and students will work right in the trailer. This initiative is an effort to help local manufacturers grow their business and workforce by training local youth in careers in CNC. |

Workforce Advancement Training (WAT) Grants applications are now being accepted at NWTC. The NWTC Corporate Training and Economic Development department provides customized, flexible, cost-effective and convenient training to more than 1,100 businesses annually, allowing them to achieve and maintain peak efficiency in the global marketplace. Fully funded grants are available for large and small companies; a service fee applies.
