DCEDC Annual Meeting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DCEDC is pleased to announce the details for our annual investors meeting and luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. The keynote speaker will be Terry Ludeman, retired Chief Economic Advisor for the State of Wisconsin. Ludeman is a highly sought after state resource, known for being able to take complicated economic data and translating it into meaningful (and entertaining) information for the non-economist. His remarks will be discussing "Looking Toward the Post-Recession Economy."
In addition to the keynote address by Ludeman, the meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The luncheon meeting will also include the annual report to the community about the accomplishments of DCEDC during 2008. This year's annual meeting also celebrates the 20th anniversary of DCEDC, founded in 1989.
The DCEDC annual investors meeting will start promptly at 12pm. A pre-luncheon reception with Terry Ludeman will take place from 11:15 to 11:45am. Tickets for the May 5 luncheon are $25 per person or $225 for a table of ten. Tickets are available from the DCEDC office. For more information, please contact DCEDC at (920) 743-3113 x200 or by email at janet@doorcountybusiness.com.
Delegates Needed for Door County Legislative Days
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Door County Legislative Days 2009 will once again require at least 100 local delegates to call on legislators in Madison. Door County Legislative Days main events are scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, when delegates will call on state legislators in the afternoon and enjoy a reception, authentic Door County fish boil dinner and entertainment with legislators and guests that evening. The remainder of the May 12-13 event will be reserved for visiting state officials and selected state agencies.

The cost to participate for delegates is only $20, made possible by a variety of local financial sponsors, including local governments, civic groups and private businesses. Anyone interested in participating in Legislative Days can register at www.dclegislativeday.com no later than Friday, May 1. Registration forms are also available from the DCEDC offices (920-743-3113 x200 or janet@doorcountybusiness.com.). Rooms starting at $89 at the Legislative Days headquarters hotel, the Inn On The Park on Capitol Square, are available until April 17. For hotel reservations, call 800-279-8811.

The purpose of Legislative Days is to educate state officials about Door County, and to lobby for state action to help address local issues and concerns. This year's events are building directly on the success of Door County Legislative Days in 2003, 2005 and 2007, which brought the specific concerns of the community directly to elected representatives and influential government appointees. A volunteer committee is working to develop the 2009 legislative and state agency agenda topics and issues that will be presented in Madison. To view the agendas and accomplishments of past Door County Legislative Days events, visit the Legislative Days website at www.dclegislativeday.com/Issues.htm.

DKBEP - Tool Time and Golf Challenge ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DKBEP

The Tool Timeprogram for Door & Kewaunee County second, third, fourth and fifth grade students will be held on Thursday, April 22, 8am-12pm at Sunrise School in Sturgeon Bay. This hands-on activity allows students to see a variety of tools, how they are used and talk with the people who use them in their work. 330 students will visit with representatives for six different career clusters (Arts and Communications; Business and Marketing; Human Services; Technology/Engineering/Scientific; Agriculture/Natural Resources; and Health and Medical). If you would like to volunteer for Tool Time, please contact Ann Bennett at ann@doorcountybusiness.com or (920) 743-3113 x201.

DKBEP is also pleased to announce its second annual benefit Golf Challenge at The Orchards Golf Course in Egg Harbor on Sunday, May 17. Last year, the event raised nearly $12,000 to support youth career awareness and workforce training initiatives such as the High School Home Construction Program, High School Certified Nursing Assistant Program and the development of nine manufacturing career awareness videos. This charity event is sponsored by American Transmission Company and Dominion Power along with Donny's Glidden Lodge Restaurant.

The DKBEP Golf Challenge is a 4-person scramble and includes golf and cart, beverages, gifts, snacks, 19th Hole Dinner Social, hole contests and fabulous door prizes.  Free use of the driving range will begin at 10:30am with a shotgun start at noon.  Early registration is recommended. For more information, contact Tara LeClair at (920) 743-3113 x205 or tara@doorcountybusiness.com.

Telecommunications Improvements
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need your help! The County of Door recently entered into a Letter of Intent agreement with Norlight Telecommunications Inc. to develop detailed engineering for a proposed countywide telecommunications network, providing broadband connectivity to a majority of the peninsula. DCEDC has been working closely with the County and Norlight on the routing and design of the proposed combination of fiber optic and wireless network deployment.
In order for this proposal to be financially feasible for the County, it will be necessary to acquire federal support through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. We are currently in the process of assessing the present and future telecommunications needs of the Door County business community. This assessment is an important step in determining the fiber route as well as the viability of the proposed deployment for qualification for potential Federal funding. To voice your business's telecommunications needs in Door County, visit www.doorcountybroadbandinquiry.com to take a brief survey.
Additionally, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is seeking input from residents and businesses on broadband needs in the state. It is likely that the state will be asked to advise federal agencies on where there are needs for broadband that could be helped through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. Please help the PSC demonstrate to the Feds that Door County is an underserved area of the state by completing the quick and easy Broadband Customer Survey at http://psc.wi.gov/apps35/eSurvey/Broadband/WIbroadband.aspx.
