Door County Legislative Day
Save the date! The third Door County Legislative Day
in Madison is scheduled for May 8 and 9. The purpose
of Legislative Day is to educate state officials about
Door County, and to lobby for state action to help
address local issues and concerns. The schedule has
been adjusted to provide more time for delegates to
meet with legislators, government leaders and state
agencies. For those delegates with limited time, the
main events are scheduled for Tuesday, May 8th,
when delegates will call on state legislators in the
afternoon and enjoy a reception, an authentic Door
County fish boil and Door County entertainment with
legislators that evening.
A volunteer committee is working to develop the
2007 legislative and state agency agenda topics and
issues that will be presented in Madison. To view the
agendas and accomplishments of Legislative Day
2003 and 2005, visit the Door County Legislative Day
website.
We will once again be headquartered at the Inn On
The Park (800-279-8811), which is holding a block of
discounted rooms. When making your reservation, be
sure to mention Door County Legislative Day to
receive a special group rate.
Door County Legislative Day is a collaborative effort,
jointly planned by DCEDC, the Door County Visitor
Bureau, the Door County office of the University of
Wisconsin-Extension, the Sturgeon Bay Visitors and
Convention Bureau and various other local
volunteers. If you are interested in participating in
Legislative Day or providing some input on the
agenda, please contact Bill Chaudoir at 920-743-

Development Report Card for the States
The national Corporation for Enterprise Development
(CfED) recently released their 20th annual
Development Report Card for the States, which
placed Wisconsin on the “Honor Roll” for earning all
A’s and B’s in 67 measures of Performance, Business
Vitality and Development Capacity. According to the
report, “Wisconsin has distinguished itself as a great
place to live, consistently earning high marks for
Performance. The state has shown significant
improvement in Business Vitality and Development
Capacity, with its 2007 grades qualifying the Badger
State for the DRC honor roll for a second consecutive
year. Wisconsin can now proudly say that it is a
great place to both live and work, with bright
prospects for its future economic performance and
standard of living.”
Only seven states earned the “Honor Roll” in
2007. “The indexes of the DRC describe a healthy
state economy: investments made today
(development capacity) affect the environment in
which businesses operate 10-15 years from now
(business vitality); businesses drive the conditions in
which people live and work (performance).” To read
the 2007 Development Report Card for the States,
