Door County Housing Assistance Program
The County of Door was recently granted a contract
extension for a Community Development Block Grant
from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, Bureau
of Downtown and Community Revitalization. The new
contract greatly expands the scope of Door County
Housing Assistance Program, administered by DCEDC.
The grant, originally given to provide assistance to
offset the purchase price of new homes in the
MeadowWood development in Liberty Grove, will now
provide qualified first time homebuyers with up to
$20,000 zero percent interest mortgage loans for the
purchase of a home anywhere within the County.
The grant will give first time homebuyers immediate
equity and allow them to more easily secure
traditional financing for the balance of the cost of
the home of their choice.

Employer-Assisted Housing
DCEDC staff recently met with representatives from
the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and the
Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development
Authority (WHEDA) to introduce the concept of
employer-assisted housing programs to Door County
companies. Employer-Assisted Housing can take
many forms, from on-site homebuyer education to
down payment assistance, and WHEDA has been
working with employers across the state to develop
innovative programs to identify and address the
housing needs of valuable employees. Employers can
increase staff retention and decrease recruiting and
training costs by helping assist employees purchase
affordable, accessible, healthy and safe housing
nearby the workplace.
The availability of the Door County Housing
Assistance program funds makes this an opportune
moment for local companies to leverage available
homebuyer assistance funding while also contributing
to employee homebuying. Any Door County company
that is interested in exploring offering an employer-
assisted housing benefit program to their workforce
should contact Sam Perlman at (920) 743-3113 x204
or by email at sam@doorcountybusiness.com.

The Door/Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership
(DKBEP) recently hired Heather Powell to be the new
Business and Education Manager for the Partnership.
Heather comes to DKBEP from Davenport, IA, where

of the Quad Cities. Heather and her family recently
relocated to Door County, where her husband Dan is
