Annual Investors Meeting
DCEDC is pleased to announce the details for our
annual investors meeting and luncheon on
Wednesday, May 10, at the Stone Harbor Resort and
Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. The keynote
speaker will be Wisconsin Department of
Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi. The
Secretary will be discussing the considerable
investments his Department is making in Door County
for important local transportation infrastructure
improvements. The May 10 event will also feature
the debut of the new strategic marketing plan that
DCEDC is developing with the assistance of Infusion
Marketing from Green Bay.
In addition to the remarks by Secretary Busalacchi
and the presentation of the marketing plan, the
annual investors meeting will include the presentation
of the Door County Industry of the Year and
Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The Industry of
the Year Award recognizes a construction, service or
manufacturing business that has made a substantial
impact on the community and enjoyed significant
accomplishments during the past year. The
Entrepreneur of the Year Award celebrates those
individuals who have taken the initiative to start and
grow a successful small business in Door County. The
luncheon meeting will also include the annual report
to investors about the accomplishments of DCEDC
during 2005.
The DCEDC annual investors meeting will start
promptly at 12pm. Tickets for the May 10 luncheon
are $25 per person and are available from the DCEDC
office. For more information, please contact Sharon
Spengler at (920) 743-3113 x200, or by email at the

Door County Economic Development Adjustment Plan
DCEDC staff continues the implementation of our
priority recommendations from the Economic
Development Adjustment Plan. This month, our Board
of Directors will see the first draft of our
comprehensive branding campaign for Door County as
a prime location for high-growth, high margin
businesses and to grow the workforce in the area.
May will bring the first organizational meetings of the
Door County angel investment network, which will
consider investment proposals from entrepreneurs in
new technology and high-growth businesses. DCEDC
has been working with Northeast Wisconsin Technical
College, Bay Area Workforce Development Board, the
Door County Job Center and other organizations to
secure the necessary funding for the implementation
of workforce training initiatives that are needed by
our local businesses and are an integral part of the
Shipbuilding and Manufacturing clusters.
The DCEDC staff continues to be available to local
municipal governments and other community groups
to present the findings of the Door County Economic
Development Adjustment Plan and to solicit support
and volunteers for implementation of the Plan
recommendations. If your group is interested in
hearing a presentation on the Plan, contact Sam
Perlman, Economic Development Manager at 920-743-
3113 x204 or by e-mail at the link below.

May is Manufacturing Month
Did you know that manufacturing and related
industries comprise almost one-half of Wisconsin’s
economy? That nearly one in five workers in
Wisconsin are directly employed in manufacturing?
Wisconsin leads the nation in the manufacture of
such diverse products as cheese, small engines,
surface mining equipment; fire trucks, medical
imaging equipment and paper. $14 Billion worth of
Wisconsin-manufactured products are exported to
countries around the world.
In recognition of the considerable economic impact of
manufacturing and related industries in Wisconsin,
Governor Jim Doyle recently proclaimed May 2006 as
Manufacturing Month, saluting “Wisconsin’s
manufacturers and their employees for helping build a
stronger economy for our families, our communities
and Wisconsin’s future.” Three cheers for the
manufacturers of Door County and the State of
Wisconsin!
