 BISD's 13th Annual BISD Marching Festival is Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. Seventeen of the area's finest bands will compete providing an exciting day of great performances. The preliminary performances begin at 11:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:15 p.m. The top 10 finalists will perform between 6:30-9:30 p.m. All three BISD high school marching bands, though not competing, will perform an exhibition of their 2011 contest show. Attendees will also enjoy an exhibition performance by the University of Texas at Arlington Marching Band. Ticket are $10 for adults, $5 for students (kindergarten-college), and $5 for senior adults. |

- BISD is offering sign language classes from 6:30-8 p.m. at Porter Elementary. This session runs for eight weeks and is open to ages 10 to adult. The cost is $25 per person or $40 per family. There is an optional sign language book for $30. Classes are free to parents of deaf children. The school is located at 2750 Prestondale Dr. in Hurst. - In celebration of National Dyslexia Awareness Month, Birdville ISD is promoting awareness of dyslexia and related language-based learning disorders by offering a free, community awareness event from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. The topic of the program is "Supporting Your Dyslexic Student." Tricia Quisenberry, dyslexia outreach coordinator for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders, will present the program.
- Haltom High School is hosting its annual Fall Craft Fair from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the school. Haltom High is located at 5501 N. Haltom Road in Haltom City. Admission is free. Vendor booths are still available. For information, e-mail hhsptsa@hotmail.com.
- Birdville ISD will observe Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-29. This year's theme is "Texans Give Drugs the Boot." Special events are planned district wide for each day.
