THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
We had another amazing year at VFES and it couldn't have happened without the long hours spent by the members of the PTO. If you run into these women in the next few days or over the summer, please take the time to thank them for their many hours of service to our school. In addition to their board positions, these women also chair many additional events at the school.
We say goodbye to Frani Aufiero, who has been on the board of the PTO for seven years. Frani has given countless hours this year running the school's social events and, as our veteran, was a great resource to have on the board. In the past, she has served as the VP of Volunteers and the VP of Fundraising and managed to do everything while working full time! Frani has been a super human volunteer and she will really be missed!
Jenni DiMaio organized 29 club sessions this year. This includes finding instructors, overseeing the club coordinators, running background checks and organizing rosters for the teachers. Our club program is phenomenal and Jenni is the reason.
Sharon Forge deposited over a thousand checks, helped chairs understand the financial process and funded around 60 cash boxes . She always did it with a smile and even won over our friends at the TruMark. Way to go Sharon!
Natalie Sudall once again kept us on track financially, managing our accounts in Quickbooks. She turned around last minute check requests, got everyone reimbursed, handled our taxes and managed to keep her four kids together. Thank you so much Natalie.
Julie Borrelli outdid herself once again managing the Publishing Center and oversaw the creation of almost 700 (yes, I said 700!!) books. This is an amazing accomplishment and Julie and her team have the process down to a science. We are so grateful for all of Julie's efforts.
Lynne Spangler helped us remember what we decided at our board meetings and always had the meeting minutes completed right on time. She also was willing to jump in and help any board member that needed assistance. We appreciate it Lynne!
Monica Moore did a great job organizing all of our volunteers this year. She spent a good chunk of her summer confirming and finding volunteers for positions, and started confirming chairpersons all over again this May. It is a huge job and we can always count on Monica to have it covered.
Finally, we are grateful to Amy Wescoe who logged all of your direct donations and created and mailed the receipts. Thank you for your hard work Amy!
We Will Miss These Exceptional Chairpersons
The PTO would also like to thank the efforts of some very dedicated volunteers that will be moving on this year with the graduation of their 4th grader. Throughout their time at VFES these women chaired the bigger school positions and some chaired more than one event a year. We will really miss Katherine McGovern, Fran Arvan, Joann Mayo, Wendy Sedlak and Rita Gosnear. Your efforts are very much appreciated and you have helped make so many of our events a huge success. Thank you all so much!!
Don't Forget To Sign Up To Chair An Event Next Year!
We still have chairperson positions open for next year that we need to fill. Please click on the volunteer graphic on the right hand side of the newsletter. It will take you to our new PTO website where you can fill out our new online sign-up form. Don't wait until the last minute! |
We Need Your Vote On Another Gifts To School Purchase
The PTO is proposing the purchase of two industrial sized ceiling fans for the gymnasium. This would help with the excessive heat that collects in the gym during phys. ed. classes and during PTO events. Attached is an explanation of the purchase and a ballot for your vote. Please return your completed ballot to the school office by June 12th. If you have any questions, please email Raquel Hunter at rioshunter@yahoo.com. Click here for the ballot.

Fitness Recess Laps Program
During the month of May students were given the opportunity to participate in a Fitness Program during recess. Students walked, jogged or ran on a mapped out course and parent volunteers tracked the distance for the students. During the course of the program, students' miles were logged and a virtual "trek" to California was on its way! The students traveled 2,763 miles and made it all the way from Valley Forge Elementary School to California in just one month! Thank you so much to the parent volunteers that dedicated their time and encouragement to our students as they participated. Without your help our students would have never been able to accomplish this amazing goal.

Many Thanks For Supporting SKOOOT
The SKOOOT fund raising is over. With your donations, PTO's donations and Pack 81's match, we will have enough to buy at least 8 metal trash cans. Please see attached flyer for more details and a picture of the trash cans we plan to buy over the summer.

T & E Care School Supply Drive
Mark your summer calendars for this summer's T&E Care School Supply Drive - the annual event to help all kids start school with the required supplies needed for a successful school year. The drive will start on July 16 and all collections will be done by the end of the month. Over 150 students needed assistance last year, and the expectation is that this number will grow as the economy continues to struggle. Lots of school supplies will be needed, as well as many gift cards which are used to help offer options for a family to buy additional supplies, a new shirt or pair of pants, or food for a good breakfast. If you aren't already on the T&E Care email list to receive more details when the event gets closer, or if you can help with this event or have any questions - please contact T&E Care at schoolsupply@tecare.org. More details can be found at www.tecare.org.

As the year comes to a close, we still need to thank the following parents for chairing our final school events:
Laurel Sarian, Pam Bennett and Amanda Ivory stepped up to run the teacher end of year luncheon. The menu looks fantastic and the teachers are in for a delicious lunch!
Our 4th graders are looking forward to their end of year luau at Picket Post. The 4th grade committee chairs are Joann Mayo and Frani Aufiero. The "aloha" committee includes Heather Bittenbender, Erin Shine, Fran Arvan, Wendy Sedlak, Natalie Sudall, Sari Shanken, Julie Borrelli, Sanne Neubig, Georgia Merrill, and Joe Griffith. Thanks for all of your planning and hard work.
A huge thank you also needs to go out to all of our library volunteers and homeroom parents. We hope you all know how much your time is appreciated in these positions and how important they are to the kids. You really make a difference! A huge debt of gratitude goes out to Debbie Reiner and Natalie Sudall for organizing all of the library volunteers.
