GREETING CUSTOMERS AT

"THE NATIONAL"

August is now behind us and with that, another National Sports Convention is history.   Held this year in Baltimore at the downtown convention center, this year's event was the second most successful in our 19 years of exhibiting at the world's foremost sports collector's show.   As always, it was great to greet old friends and meet customers who have only corresponded with us by mail, telephone or e-mail.   Many new collectors saw our products for the first time and became customers also.     During the week, many former customers stopped by our booth to say hello and add to their DVD collections:   Michael Klar, Robert Taylor, Ted Patterson, Steve Nishino, Tony Cocchi, Dan Geroni, "D.J." Johnson, Leo Caffrey, Mel Solomon, Til Strudwick, Mark Cohen, Mark Malito, Peter Clement, Jay Finkel and others.   Next year's National will again be held the first week in August 2013, this time at the Rosemont Convention Center,  Chicago.     See you there!

BILL FOX SPONSORS "MAYHEM"

In one of our earlier Rare Sportsfilms Newsletters, we described our film restoration Sponsorship Service and told the story of Dan Geroni.   Our newest DVD "Mayhem On A Sunday Afternoon", was recently sponsored by former official photographer of the San Francisco 49'ers (1984 thru 2008) Bill Fox of Novato, California.

Bill tells an interesting story about why he had remembered that ABC TV Special, which was aired the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving in November, 1965.   "I was a sophomore quarterback for Lincoln High School (San Francisco) at the time and Mike Holmgren (later Green Bay Packer Super Bowl winning NFL coach) was our senior QB.   We had a great team in 1965 and won the S.F. High School Football Championship that year, beating Lowell High School for the title.   That Championship Game was a big thrill for me because we played Lowell the morning after the special aired - in Kezar Stadium, then home of the 49'ers!   I was a 49'er fan even then, and it was a dream for me to be able to walk out on their home field!   There were around 15,000 fans there that day, compared to our usual 2,000 or so for our High School home games.   I remember vividly the exciting walk through that dark tunnel under the stands at Kezar and the little spot of light at the end of the tunnel which opened out onto a bright green field to the cheers of all those fans!   Best of all, we won the game, thanks to two TD's by Holmgren.   He passed for the first one, then ran for the other on a sneak to beat Lowell 13-0.

It was a thrill I'll always remember!   When I heard you had that original show which no one has seen in 35 years, I just had to sponsor it!   I'm sure many other Rare Sportsfilms customers will get a kick out of it, too"!   Bill, also a former San Francisco policeman, is now retired and currently writing a crime murder-mystery!
