Book Recommendation
JUST RELEASED!
"Golden Boys" is the title of a great new baseball book by artist Andy Jurinko and writer Chris Jennison, a 280-page volume of 600 ballplayer and ballpark portraits from the last golden era of baseball, 1946-1960. Before his passing last year, Jurinko documented this Golden Era in paintings, most of which are included in this book. Jennison, a sports historian and baseball author, wrote the introduction, summaries and image captions throughout. Shows at Indy a Rousing Success for
Rare Sportsfilms
As always, the two Racing Memorabilia Shows at Indianapolis this year were outstanding! I can't stress enough to sports fans the fun of attending these National shows each year, as you will see an astonishing array of Indy racing memorabilia for sale! It's like a giant baseball card or coin show, except crammed with racing collectibles. Driver photos, autographs, Clymer and Hungness Yearbooks, race programs, ticket stubs and full tickets, pit badges, race car models, vintage magazines, books, postcards, even racing jewelry and of course, DVDs of Indy 500's of the past. At the NARM show, held at the State Fairgrounds each year, former drivers Bob Harkey, Ralph Liguori and Spike Gehlhausen were autographing for fans. Several dealers reportedly made purchases from walk-ins.
At the IMME show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, fabulous articles from ex-Indy driver and late USAC President Henry Banks' collection were sold: several trophies, pit badges from the 1930's-1980's, memorabilia from the 1950 Indy 500 motion picture "To Please A Lady" (Clark Gable), autographed Mobil flags and Banks' Champion 100-MPH club leather jacket. Rare Sportsfilms annually does both shows and we enjoy meeting new customers each year as well as seeing old friends and being back again in Indiana!

This year, Bob was a crewman for Indy rookie #19 James Jakes of the Dale Coyne Racing team (Jakes and driver #18 Justin Wilson sponsorship by Boy Scouts of America). This was Bob's 32nd consecutive year working with a crew at "The Greatest Spectacle In Racing"! (As a crewmember, Bob's "best Indy finish" was 6th in 1993 with the late Scott Brayton driving). Because of his great interest in collecting racing and sports memorabilia, Bob enjoys stopping by our booth at racing events and sports collector shows throughout the year.

Dear Rare Sportsfilms Subscriber,
In this newsletter we celebrate the longest days of the year, the good ole summertime and the All-Star break!
Indeed, it was "take me out to the ball game" when we recently were treated to a game at historic Wrigley Field seeing the Boston Red Sox at the Chicago Cubs in the "Friendly Confines". Ice cream sundaes and milk shakes were consumed at a local diner a block away from the ball park with good friends after the game. What could possibly be more classic American summertime fun than that?
We hope you're enjoying summer relaxation, vacations, family gatherings, barbeques, the old swimming hole and, of course - baseball season!
Once again, thanks for your business!
Doak Ewing
