MemoriesThe memories keep coming in.

"I was there when Don Larsen..."

Our discovery of the Larsen game and our offering of it continue to inspire stories even years later.  During a conversation recently, one of our customers revealed that his good friend Jack from Reston, Virginia often tells the story of how he was AT Larsen's perfecto pitched on October 8, 1956.   Jack was born on October 15, 1956, so his friends who know this usually raise their eyebrows in question when the story is told.   Then Jack continues, "Dad took Mom, who was due to have me in two weeks, to the game".  Jack says that the excitement of the game probably caused him to be born a week early on October 15.   Jack still insists he "saw" the game, as he says, "although, I did have an obstructed view"!

The John

Hartell Story

In January, John Hartell had no idea he was making history!   For the first time in over 20 years, Rare Sportsfilms has sold every one of its pro football DVDs to a new customer in a single sale!   Hartell, of Carmichael, California, read the description of our 1954 Time For Football  DVD on line and ordered it because as he said, "It seemed to be full of vintage, original action footage.   Once I received the DVD and played it through, I realized that this was exactly what I had been looking for!   Doak had included a listing of his entire inventory of baseball and football DVDs with my order, and after viewing Time For Football and looking over the list, I was drooling - I just HAD to get them all!   I decided to call Rare Sportsfilms and see if I could get some sort of discount.   It was good to be able to actually talk to Doak about his DVDs and he discounted the entire list so much that I could not refuse the deal!"

Born in New York in 1957, John moved with his family to Cincinnati in 1966.   While in the 4th grade, he discovered sports and became an Ohio State Buckeye and Green Bay Packer fan.   "The Packers were a winning, colorful team at the time and that appealed to me", John says.   When the family moved to the SF Bay area, John's favorite team became the John Brodie 49'ers and he later enjoyed the success of the Joe Montana-led teams of the era.

"Before I found out about Rare Sportsfilms, I had purchased DVDs by NFL Films from Amazon.   Appealing to me most were the history DVDs, such as those of the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, etc. I was somewhat disappointed, however by the style of those, as they contained almost as many interviews as old, original footage.   The old footage they do show is re-narrated and spiced up in a re-made modern production, with new soundtrack and music added, and to me, they had too much fluff and not enough substance.   What I really like about Rare Sportsfilms DVDs is that they are 100% original footage, with original soundtrack, titles and narration, and in many cases, even include original commercials!   Doak even has some original NFL TV broadcasts which I REALLY enjoy".

Hartell, a fan of most sports, eventually intends to also purchase many of Rare Sportsfilms' baseball DVDs.   "I'm looking over the baseball list already," John says, " but these 71 football titles I've just received will give me a lot of great viewing to look forward to in the weeks ahead."

Of course we at Rare Sportsfilms always enjoy hearing our customers' unique stories, and  about the memories brought back by our old time sports DVDs!
