Dear Notre Dame Families:

Go Notre Dame!!! Next week Tuesday, October 16th will be Spirit Day in celebration of the end to a successful Fall sports season!!!  Over the weekend the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade volleyball teams will be playing at Notre Dame Academy for their final tournament of the season. The last football game (Notre Dame 7th grade team vs. Oneida 7th grade team) of the year will be after school on October 16th.  Students and families are encouraged to attend the volleyball tournament and/or football game to cheer on the Raiders.  The football game begins at 4:00 and will be on our home field behind the East De Pere middle school. All students are invited to wear their Spirit shirts or favorite jersey to school (Pre-k through 8) Students who participated in a Fall sport are encouraged to wear their game jersey to school.

Do any of you know what a QR code is? If you said no your in good company because neither did I until I found out what Mrs Laehn was teaching in technology class.  A QR code is a small square black shape with a unique pattern. You may have seen QR codes in the newspaper, in a magazine, or on T.V. The codes can be used to place text messages, url addresses etc.  Mrs. Laehn is having her students use the QR codes to create book reviews.  Students are using electronic devices, such as an I-pad or smart phone, to scan the codes and read a book review.  After reading the book review students can decide if they want to check out the book.   How cool is that?

There is still time to sign up for conferences. Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Oct. 23 (3:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) and Oct. 25 (12:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.)  Forms have been sent home. Please sign up to get your children's conferences scheduled. The deadline to have your forms in to the office is Oct. 11th.

Charles Street (south side of elementary school) will be the site of road construction beginning October 10.  Charles street between Superior and Huron will be a bus lane only before school and after school.  Please plan accordingly.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by October 24th.

National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week is November 10-18.  Notre Dame will be pitching in to to help by holding a food drive during the school week (November 12-16).  Details to follow.

I hope that you are enjoying the beautiful Fall colors!!!

Jump with Joy,

 Jeff

St. John's Shelter Meal Point-Person Sign-Up

The St. John's Shelter will be opening its doors to people looking for food and shelter throughout the next few months (Nov-April). The Notre Dame of De Pere School Community has been supporting this effort by providing a meal twice a month (last year with everyone working together, we were able to provide over 1500 individual meals to community members in need!!). We would like to continue this tradition, but will need the care, compassion and cooking skills of our school families. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with our kiddos to teach them about the shelter, while including them in preparing a meal to help those in need. Every other week we will prepare a meal for 30-60 guests at the shelter.

We are looking for one point person per meal from each grade to coordinate the meal with the families from that particular grade and/or team/troop (it takes about 1-2 hours for the point person to coordinate the meal). We will help the point person set-up the on-line meal tool for the class to sign up online to bring items along with suggestions for meals/recipies, etc if desired. The point person will help coordinate getting the meal items (in disposable containers) to the Dolski Center located at the middle school by 3:00 on the assigned day. Transportation of the meal from the Dolski Center to the shelter and serving of the meal are already set up. There are also 2 'open slots' and we are looking for any group to help with those if able to. (This does count for service hours too:) )

lunchrecessLunch Room & Playground Volunteering Update

Dear Notre Dame Families,

I wanted to give you an update on the new Lunch Room and Playground Volunteering process.

We have had great success so far this year with the new process we have put in place to provide supervision and assistance in the school lunch room and school playgrounds. We have received very positive feedback from both Mrs. Charlier on the elementary playground and Mrs. Danen in the lunch room. In addition, we are receiving wonderful feedback from parents who have told us they enjoy coming into the school to see how the lunch time routine works and seeing the kids in their element!

We have added additional volunteer slots for the lunch room due to a higher need than expected. If you are willing and able to help out in this area, Mrs. Danen and her team would appreciate the help! If you have not already signed up to fill one of the first trimester lunch recess or playground volunteer slots, please do so right away.

The Sign Up Genius link for the Lunch/Recess Volunteer Sign Up is below:

As a reward to school families for helping provide a safe environment for lunch and recess, families will earn double the volunteer hours when providing service in this area.

Thank you so much for helping to support Notre Dame of De Pere.
