Volunteering at Sequoia
Sequoia Gallery + Studios has received support from two arts organizations this year.

The Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council has granted us funds to produce an informational postcard for wide area distribution.

Cultural Coalition of Washington County granted us funds to have local musicians perform at every First Tuesday reception.

This support is critically important to the success of Sequoia.

December Show

For the Holiday season, we present "A Touch of Red", the all-member show. Opening evening is Tuesday, December 6, 6 pm - 8 pm. Join us for some holiday cheer and colorful art shopping!

There's a special tree in the window filled with unique ornaments, which would make great gifts, and all proceeds benefit Sequoia Gallery.

Meet Sequoia's Board Members

We'd like to introduce you to the hardworking volunteer board members that guide Sequoia Gallery + Studios and keep it going strong. This month we present a profile of our president, Victoria Shepard, and our community representative, Claudia Stockton.

Victoria Shepard

Victoria attended Hillsboro schools and graduated from Portland State University with a
BS in English and a secondary teaching certificate.
She is

Surfacing, Victoria Shepard
married to Colin and has three adult children and one grandchild: the true joys of her life. She loves Hillsboro and all the friends she has made working to create an art community in her hometown. She spent the last ten years on the board of Hillsboro Community Arts and has been a member of Sequoia since its inception four years ago. She is kept busy with her responsibilities as President of Sequoia but still finds time to take classes and experiment with her artwork. She says she paints "because it is the one thing I do in my life that enables me to feel totally alone. This solitude brings me closer to my essence than any other personal act."

Claudia Stockton

It's a pleasure to serve the artists at Sequoia as both a volunteer and a community member on the Board of Directors.  It's an opportunity to give back to the Hillsboro community, supporting the local business. After graduating from school here, raising two sons, teaching in local schools and selling real estate I've pursued my interest in both creating my own paintings and volunteering. Some of my favorite days too are are those spent with my family and 3 grandchildren. Often either my grandchildren or local country scenes are the subjects of my paintings. Creating rocks the soul while challenges one's abilities. I desire the viewer of my paintings to take a journey into seeing the beauty of the world with me, just one moment, one painting at a time.

Volunteering at Sequoia

Whether you are an artist, collector or someone who just appreciates fine art, you can help Sequoia by volunteering to help staff the Gallery. Gallery staffers serve 4 hour shifts on the days of their choosing, depending on slots available.

You can further support Sequoia's efforts to bring more people and vitality to downtown Hillsboro by becoming a Friend of Sequoia. For a $50 annual fee you will receive a 10% discount on gallery purchases and classes. These funds will help with Sequoia's operating expenses and efforts to bring special programs to the Hillsboro arts community.

Membership forms are available at Sequoia Gallery for both volunteers and Friends.

Sincerely,

Sequoia Gallery + Studios
