Birdie Britches at
Lafayette, LA Bird Fair

Last weekend we traveled to Lafayette, LA for their bird fair.  What fun, great people, beautiful birds!  We welcome our new friends to the Birdie Britches Bird Toys family!

October 14 is the bird mart in Las Vegas, NV.  We can't wait to see our old friends and make some new ones!  If you are in the area, please stop by and see us.

The Quick Links section of our newsletter has links to some great articles chosen just for you that you won't want to miss.  This month's links includes the Schubot Center whose mission is "to improve the health of wild and exotic birds by promoting research into the cause, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of avian disease".  We owe our thanks to them many times over!

The Birdie Britches website is undergoing changes which will hopefully be completed by Thanksgiving.  Please be patient and feel free to email your orders if you experience difficulties online.

Our Facebook page is becoming more active.  Join us for fun discussions and announcements of new toy designs.

Gandalf wants to hear from you and your birds!  Send questions to wiseoldbird@yahoo.com.  And always remember to Practice Safe Toys!

Sincerely,

Q&A With a Wise Old Bird

ask gandalf

Booooo, seeing as Halloween is coming up I thought I'd scare you!

Dear Gandalf:

What should we do on Halloween?  I've heard that it's a scary time.

Signed: Scared Screecher

Dear Screecher: Halloween is the time of year that I like best. I like to slide open the window and get really close and when the little two leggers come up... I SCREAM  at them.  Sometimes they run and it's soooo funny!

Dear Gandalf:

What does it mean when 2 budgies stick their beaks in each others mouth and make little chirpy noises?

Signed: Curious

Dear Curious:

That can mean one of two things.  One, there might be really good food in there or two, go ask your Mother.  I am not allowed to talk about this online.

Dear Gandalf:

It seems to be getting cold in my house and there are drafts. I don't know how to keep warm.  What can I do?

Signed: Shivery

Dear Shivery:

This is getting into the cold part of the year for some places and it's hard for a bird to keep warm.  I have a squiddy from Birdie Britches and I love to snuggle in it.  Use your slave's credit card and order one from www.birdiebritches.com and be warm all winter.

That's all for now....better get off before my slave catches me on the computer.  PLEASE send me some more questions for the next issue to wiseoldbird@yahoo.com.  As always ARRGGGGGHHHHHH and away I go to nap.

For the Birds ~ Pumpkin Logs
pumpkin logs

By Toni Fortin

1 cup Gabanzo beans (chick peas) soaked, skimmed and cooked **
1/2 cup old fashioned Quaker oats
1 egg
1 tsp. agave nectar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped

Using a food processor, add everything except the pecans. Put pecans in a small bowl.

Pulse until you have a thick paste. With wet hands roll into a ball the size of a large walnut. Then into a log 3/4" thick by 3" long. Roll in the pecans. Place on cookie sheet lightly sprayed with cooking oil. Bake at 325 for 25 minutes.

Yield: 15 logs

** 1 lb. of dry Gabanzo beans, soaked, foam removed and cooked will yield 6 cups of beans. When drained and cooled, put into 1 cup bags and freeze. Take them out to go into recipes for cookies, mash and breads.
