Greetings!

Toby, Timneh African Grey

Birdie Britches Bird Toys was in Las Vegas last month for the Las Vegas Aviculture Society Bird Expo and had a great time meeting new friends and introducing them to new toys.  It really is beneficial to go to the expos and see the toys displayed; it sparks new ideas and also ways to improve upon current designs.  Watch for announcements in next months newsletter about these changes and new designs.  Thank you to the great people of the Las Vegas club for your hospitality!  I look forward to returning to Las Vegas next May and October!

Welcome to our new newsletter members.  We are so happy you thought enough of our toys to join our newsletter family. We would love to put a picture of your bird in our newsletter playing with a Birdie Britches Bird Toy. Please send your pictures and any ideas you may have for toy designs to birdiebritches@gmail.com!

This past month has been interesting, to say the least!  Shortly after I got back from the show in Las Vegas I broke my ankle which required surgery.  While I am still not allowed to place any weight on that leg, I am finally getting back to work on new toy designs and sending out this newsletter.  Thanks for your patience while I was/am out of commission!

Sincerely,

Lisa McManus

Q&A With a Wise Old Bird

ask gandalf
Howdy Fans, here I am again to answer your most heartfelt and intimate questions.

Dear Gandalf, I am one of the privileged birds who happens to be an Amazon.  Now during the last world census isn't it a fact that there were more Amazons than any other bird on the planet?
I think it's the truth; there are more of us than any other bird.

Signed, the Amazing Amazon

Dear AA, I am not sure where you get your figures from but according to my records the highest in numbers among birds is your close relative ...... the chicken.  Well at least in my books it's a close relative to you.

Dearest Gandalf, I just love to pluck my feathers.  One reason is it drives my human crazy.  She gets so upset and begs me to stop.  Silly lady, doesn't she know that's why I do it.  However, I'm getting kind of cold so should I stop or keep doing it?

Love, Bare-naked Ladybird

Dear BL, I really like the sleek look of the bare skin.  I have been known to pluck some myself.  Sometimes I do it for the same reason you do.... just to hear my humans get upset.  Other times it's because my skin itches, especially this time of year.  So I take baths then and it helps a little.  Then my human tries to spray some gook on me to help the itching but I run away as fast and far as I can get.  They are so much fun to confuse!  Keep up the good work!

Ok, this is all the information I'm going to give out this time.  For more exciting news tune in next month for more exciting razzle-dazzlement, and keep those questions coming.  In the meantime just remember by favorite saving, AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Send your questions to wiseoldbird@yahoo.com so I can amaze you with my answers.

HOW TO STUFF YOUR PARROT ON THANKSGIVING
Toby
This has been around awhile, but always fun to read!

1 Turkey
Mashed potatoes/gravy
Corn Pudding
Cranberry Sauce
Green Beans
Hot Rolls
Stuffing
Relish tray
Sweet Potatoes
Pumpkin pie/whipped Cream
Hot Coffee

Get up early in the morning & have a cup of coffee. It is going to be a long day so place your parrot on a perch nearby to keep you company while you prepare the meal.

Remove parrot from kitchen counter back to perch. Prepare stuffing; remove parrot from edge of stuffing bowl. Stuff turkey & place it in the roasting pan, remove parrot from edge of pan. Have another cup of coffee to steady your nerves.

Remove parrot's head from turkey cavity and re-stuff voided area. Prepare relish tray; remember to make twice as much so that you will have a regular size serving after the parrot has eaten his fill. Remove parrot from kitchen counter. Prepare cranberry sauce; discard berries accidentally flung to the floor. Peel potatoes, remove parrot from edge of potato bowl. Arrange sweet potatoes in a pan & cover with brown sugar & mini-marshmallows remove parrot from edge of pan & replace missing marshmallows.

Brew another pot of coffee. While it is brewing, clean up the torn filter and old coffee grounds from around the pot. Pry coffee bean from parrot's beak. Have another cup of coffee & remove parrot from kitchen counter.

When time to serve the meal: Place roasted turkey on a large platter, cover beak marks with strategically placed sprigs of parsley. Put mashed potatoes into serving bowl; rewhip at last minute to conceal bite marks and footprints.

Place pan of sweet potatoes on sideboard; forget presentation cause there is no way to hide the areas of missing marshmallow.Put rolls in decorative basket, remove parrot from side of basket along with beaked rolls, and serve what is left. Set a stick of butter out on the counter to soften - think better of it and return it to the refrigerator.

Wipe down counter to remove mashed potato foot tracks. Remove parrot from kitchen counter & carve the pie into serving slices. Wipe whipped cream off parrot's beak & place large dollops of remaining cream on pie slices. Whole slices are then served to guests, beaked-out portions should be reserved for host & hostess. Place parrot inside cage & lock the door. Sit down to a nice relaxing dinner with your family - accompanied by plaintive cries of "WANT DINNER!" from the other room.

Until next month..............

We hope you enjoyed the newsletter.  Your time is precious and we appreciate you sharing it with us.  Please contact us any time you have a question or suggestion.
