Greetings!

Last month we attended the TASC Bird Expo in St. Charles, IL and met some wonderful people.  This month we attended the Greater Omaha Cage Bird Society Bird Fair and met some wonderful people there as well!  Both were great shows and we enjoyed meeting new friends. Thank you for visiting our booth and signing up for the Birdie Britches Newsletter.  We hope you enjoy reading them.

Please remember to send in pix of your birds along with permission to use them on our website and in our newsletters.  Also, please let your birds know about our resident Wise Old Bird, Gandalf so that they can send in their questions for Gandalf to answer.  And remember ~ Always Practice Safe Toys!

Q&A With a Wise Old Bird

ask gandalf

Well, here I am an authority on everything.  I have three questions that were submitted to my email so here goes:

Q: How do you feel about Sun Conures?  I know one who is young, single and would molt all over the place if she thought it would interest you.

Best Regards, Ms. Conure

Gandalf:  Dear Ms. Conure,  Sun Conures are 'cousins' to me so we really can't have a relationship.  I sure do like young, single girls though.  However, molting is not a pretty thing, so please don't use that to get a boyfriend.

Q:  Nuts, I love nuts and hate that outer covering they have.  My stupid human keeps giving me nuts that still has the shell on them.  I pick them up expecting something good because she is acting like she is eating it, but when I get it - NOOOO!

How should I train her to shell them first?  I have tried throwing, dropping and ignoring her, but none of that works, she is too hard-headed to understand our superior language.

Casey

Gandalf:  Dear Casey:

Good luck on training your humans.  It is a full time job!

It sounds as if you have tried most of the ideas for getting your slave to crack the shells.  What i did to finally get the message  across was just not to eat them.  If your slave wants you to eat them so much then in desperation he/she will crack them for you.  Hold out, don't give in....you can do it.

Dear Gandalf: Back in the eighties I was neighbors with a school teacher in Ras Tanura Saudi Arabia who had a Greater Silver Crest named Gandalf who had a pretty impressive vocabulary.Your not by chance the same Gandalf are you?

Gary Ellisor @ Random Flights

Dear Mr. Ellisor:

I am a blue and gold macaw....always have been and always will be.  It's the best you know.

I do have a pretty impressive vocabulary but I don't use it  much.  What my slave doesn't know is that I understand whatever she says and boy could I blackmail her if I wanted.

So long until next month.  Send your questions to wiseoldbird@yahoo.com for next month.  I love all this power!

Bye for now.... Arrrrrrr

P.S.  Questions are printed just as they are received and I don't correct any typos or grammatical errors because I don't have to.

New Toys and Design Updates

Toy Creation

This month has been a busy one!  New toys were introduced last month at the TASC Bird Expo and since then we have made a couple of design updates to them.  The changes  are not noticeable on the finished product, but in the way the toys are built.  No toy design is ever finished as long as there are ways to improve it and we are always looking for ways to improve.  Thanks go out to customers and testers who have shared their ideas on ways to improve!!

In the next couple of weeks we will get pictures up on the website of the new designs:  The Squiddy - small, medium and large size; The Sleepee Teepee - small, medium and large size; The Chewy Brush Foot Toy; The Munchkin Toy Bowl; The Buckets and Bells toy for small birds.  And of course, more new designs are developing and will be unveiled soon!

SpoonBrush Toy

Surprising Fun!

Bring the foot toy to the perch!  Two foot toys, a spoon and a toothbrush, connected with a chain, add a bell and a quick link and you have the SpoonBrush Toy.

We designed this toy after comments from customers that their birds would lose their foot toys below the grate in their cage.  This toy is great for most size birds; they all love to use their tongues to explore the different shapes of the charms that are on the spoons and toothbrushes.  Cody Ann, toy tester African Grey, particularly likes the pacifiers!

Choosing Toy Colors

Nu Shooz toy

When choosing toys for your birds, you might consider your birds colors.  Especially for preening and snuggling toys.  Most birds are attracted to the colors of their own specie.  African Greys will like greys and reds, Blue and Gold Macaws will like blues and yellows, Amazons will like greens and reds and/or yellows, and so on.

We offer specie specific colors in our Sleepee Teepees, Squiddys and Nu Shooz.  Most of our toys can be produced in your birds colors, just ask if you do not see this option listed.
