Grace in your sail

The winds of Grace are always blowing but it is you who must raise your sails.

(Tagore)

On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty. Today is such a day.

iConnect
Issue 170 : 22 July 2012

Greetings!

I write this issue of iConnect from the tranquil space of Croydon Hall, where our first year students have recently completed their beautiful retreat. The panel to the left shows the inspirational quotes that formed the theme for three wonderful days.

And by the time you read this, our community of ministers will have grown to over 500 members. We welcome you - the 24 new ministers ordained on Saturday - at this joyous highlight to our year. Welcome!

With blessings to you from all in the holding group of seminary, staff team and trustees.

A flavour of our retreats
William Bloom
William Bloom (right)
The guest speaker during the first year retreat was William Bloom, known to many of us as a spiritual teacher and writer. He spoke inspirationally about spiritual emergency - when and how it happens, how it often manifests, and what we can do when we notice it happening in others. Other wonderful memories of this retreat include the drumming by the purification bonfire, the story-telling, and the profound ceremony of initiation.

During the second year retreat we were again accompanied by Diane Berke from our sister-seminary in New York, and by Robert Holden who was very much part of the original creation of the seminary.

Robert spoke deeply about his own spiritual journey, and provided us with a wonderful practical demonstration of one of the meditations he uses in his own teaching. The vow-taking ceremony was deep and profound.

The themes and currents running through both retreats were strong, affecting all those present in varied and insightful ways. The 'prayer flag' blessings created in the first retreat for all the students in both groups, reflected the individual and collective blessings received by all those on retreat.
