The measure of wealth

The true measure of a man's wealth lies not in his status or his bank account, but in the amount of time he has left each day after all that has to be done has been done.

(Based on Henry David Thoreau Walden)

Issue 159 : 22 April 2012

Greetings!

I have spent several hours this month sitting with both our first year and second year students in the Seminary. It's a great joy to witness these 66 men and women opening up to their journey with their teachers and mentors. Our student intakes are increasingly diverse: more people of colour, more younger people, more people with a professional background, more from abroad. More people are searching.

With blessings to you from Tim, and on behalf of all the staff team

Whatever your thoughts about social media and the 'blogosphere', it's evident that user-published content on websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is attracting a huge audience, and being widely reported and consulted by other media around the world.

As part of making interfaith ministry more accessible and visible to a wider audience, we are consciously engaging with these new media. If you 'Like' the OneSpirit Facebook group you will get to hear all that is happening. You can 'Join' the Interfaith Foundation Facebook page to post your own activities.  And you can 'Follow' us on Twitter @OneSpiritUK for quick snippets.

These social media feeds are increasingly attracting an external following and we want to make them lively and interesting. Please start posting your own activities  and reflections to any of them. And, where you find something interesting, it's particularly helpful if you 'Share' or 'Re-Tweet' so that the best posts are spread throughout your own networks to other like-thinking people. This is great for our profile. Mab Jones is our part-time social media editor.

Deirdre-Maria Brannigan, our profile coordinator, is keen to publish a regular 'Ministers Blog' with simple accounts of the work of interfaith ministers. So if you're a scribbler and like to jot 200-500 words about any aspect of your spiritual path, your ministry, your activities, or your thoughts, please send them in. We'll publish to the website, with full credit to you, and distribute through our social media to a far wider audience.  Similarly, if you have any short video clips that we can use, we'll publish them to the One Spirit YouTube feed coming shortly.
