Community Reflection: Oughtism

Oughtism is the most rampant epidemic on the planet today...

Oughtism is a disease of the oughtonomic nervous system where the unfortunate victims oughtomatically do what others tell them they ought to do.

If left untreated oughtism can result in a total lack of the ability to think. The victim becomes a true oughtomatum and tries to justify life by saying 'But I was only following oughtas.'

('Driving your own Karma' Swami Beyondananda's Tour Guide to Enlightenment, 1989)

The report page on Convocation 2011 is being regularly updated.  It now includes a reflective piece on Celebrating our Differences from the host-organiser, and further reports from both a first-year and a second-year student attending their first such event.  Please return your Feedback Form to Lindsay if you've not already done so.

The gremlins crept in last week, and one peer acknowledgement was unfortunately omitted:
Christopher Marcus: for all that he has given to London 2011.

Other news from around our community

Our sister seminary in New York is happy that we incorporate the 'one spirit' phrase into our expanded trading name of One Spirit Interfaith Foundation. There are some details to agree.  In the meantime, we're interested in hearing from anyone who might be interested in the graphic design work to adapt / expand our logo to reflect the expanded name.

Rev Noel Lockyer Stevens is organising a one-day retreat for ministers in SW England in September.

Hawkwood College in Stroud is seeking to appoint a new Principal; get your application in quick.

Rev Kathy Russell suggests ministers might like to join theAssociation for Pastoral Spiritual Care and Counselling.

And Stonewall tell us that the Equalities Bill is being amended to allow Civil Partnerships to be held on religious premises.
