Getting Ready for Lent
Services for the Imposition of Ashes Wednesday, March 9 7am, 12noon, 7pm
Ash Wednesday, in the Western Christian Calendar, is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It is a moveable feast, falling on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. It can occur as early as February 4 (February 5 on leap years) or as late as March 10.
Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are typically gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned.

Outreach and Community News
New Books in the Bookstore: Available now for Marie Farnsworth's Sunday School class: The Great Emergence by Phyllis Tickle. Rooted in the observation that massive transitions in the church happen about every 500 years, Tickle combines history, a look at the causes of social upheaval, and current events to illustrate the exciting future that lies ahead for the church. Also available: The Heartbeat of God: Finding the Sacred in the Middle of Everything by Katharine Jefferts Schori. Our Presiding Bishop explores our connections through the eyes of faith and "calls the Church to love our neighbor as ourselves and gives examples of how to do so."
I Love Jelly Belly's, You Love Jelly Belly's, All God's Chillin Love Jelly Belly's! Now at the Bookstore, you can get your fill of Jelly Belly jelly beans and gummy bears. We even have no-sugar varieties. These are one of my favorite candies, despite the fact that my mother thought belly was a dirty word. (Ever hear of a pot-stomach stove?) Give all the varieties a try for just $1.95 a bag.

March 24-27 Men's and Women's Cursillo Weekend
at St. Crispins
Cursillo (coor-see'-oh) is a Spanish word which means "a short course." Cursillo is a movement within the Church which is intended to help Christians know God's love and grace and to help these same Christians discover and live out their personal vocations in the world. The movement offers small group meetings which help us in our life of Christian Ministry. The movement also includes a three day weekend during which participants listen to talks by clergy and lay persons, and participate in worship, music, fellowship, prayer and other activities.
If you are a confirmed Episcopalian 21 years of age or older, speak with your local clergy about attending a Cursillo Weekend. The weekends are held at St. Crispin's Episcopal Conference Center, located seven miles east of Seminole on Highway 9.
