Used Book Collection

We are currently collecting used books for the Used Book Fair on Friday, May 25. Please note, this is not the Used Textbook Exchange and Sale. This will be held over the summer and families will be able to drop textbooks they'd like to exchange or sell in the PA Room the last week of the school year.  

                  


Used Uniform Collection
The Parents Association will be collecting Used Uniforms for our upcoming Used Uniform Sales during the summer. Please drop of Used Uniforms in the PA Room. 

                  


Library Update

Today was the last day to check out library books. We will send home notices for any overdue books. Please check at home for the books and let Judy Fedinick know if you have any questions.

 

Students will continue to come to library classes through June 1.

                  


Attention all Kindergarten and First Grade Parents!

Does your child like building with legos? Would they be interested in a summer camp devoted to this?

 

Matthew Heacock , a 2010 St. Anne's School graduate, is holding a week long summer camp for kids interested in legos! Matthew has have been a camp counselor at Camp Annapolis and also worked with lego robotics in competitions and at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Annapolis. Matthew is a rising junior at Archbishop Spalding High School. 

 

When: June 13-17, 9 am until noon

 

This will be a fun-filled camp dedicated to building with legos. There will be building challnges, educational games and other fun activities all related to various lego themes.

A Special Blessing

Monday was our annual Blessing of the Animals Chapel, which is always a fuzzy, furry, and sometimes even scaley affair! Thanks to all the families who brought in a special pet to make this Chapel possible.

The Buzz in Kindergarten
Bee Keeping expert and Kindergarten (and Prekindergarten parent) Carl Pirie visited Mrs. Egan's and Mrs. Finnegan's classes to share some insights about bees, wasps and other kinds of insects. Thanks for visiting!

                    


Buoyancy Basics
Through a grant from Northrop Grumman, Bill Aucoin visited our Seventh Grade students last week to give them an introduction to buoyancy, a concept that they will be using later on this month during the Cardboard Boat races. On the right, two Seventh Grade students perform a buoyancy experiment with aluminum foil and pennies. 

                    


Happy Birthday Mrs. Lukens!
Last week was bittersweet as we celebrated Mrs. Lukens' last birthday as Head of School. Students and staff made sure to mark the occasion and let Mrs. Lukens know how special she is to us! On the right, Fourth Grade students surprise Mrs. Lukens in her office with birthday cards and a song.

Your Participation Counts
We're Thanking Classes That Reach 100% Parent Participation in the Annual Fund with a Parent Night Out! 
All classes that reach 100% parent participation in the Annual Fund will be treated to a Parents Night Out courtesy of the school. Drop your kids of for a night of movies and fun at St. Anne's School while you enjoy a relaxing evening at home or out on the town. Kindergarten is our only class to achieve 100% participation so far, but some other classes are not too far behind. View class participation>> Give to the Annual Fund>>

                    


Spirit Day is Here!
Spirit Day (Field Day, Family Fun Day) is Next Friday 
Our Annual Field Day and Family Fun Day will be combined with Spirit Day for a fun event for the whole family! Join us at 8:30 a.m. for a sing-a-long followed by many other games and activities. Families are invited to eat lunch with your child and their buddy's family. Lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. The PA Lunch Program is hosting a complimentary all school pizza lunch this day. Families are invited to bring snack and drinks to round out the meal. See you at Spirit Day! 

                    


Third Grade Open House
Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m.   
The Third Grade will be holding an open house on their African-American history activities on Thursday, May 24 from 2-2:45.  Their research is funded in part with a grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority and the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. The end of the school year is an exciting time with many fun filled events! Check this section each week for more information as events become finalized. Updates and additions will be highlighted in burgundy. 

Monday, May 21: Capstone Panel Presentations, 8:30 a.m.

Eighth Graders will present their capstone project giving a brief overview of their research paper, volunteer time and take questions and answers from parents, faculty and students. 

 

Tuesday, May 22: Spring Sports Pictures, 2:30 p.m.

Middle School sports teams will have their pictures taken on Monday, May 21st. Order forms were sent home on Friday. Orders can also be placed online with our unqiue school id, 4100893. Order online>> 

 

Wednesday, May 23: Parent to Parent Coffee: Social Networking and Safety  Please join the Parents Association and St. Anne's School staff on Wednesday, May 23 after drop off for an informal conversation about social networking, internet safety, digital citizenship, and it's impact on your child.  

 

Friday, May 25: Spirit Day (EC Family Fun Day and Field Day)  8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. 

This year we are wrapping our favorite year end "fun" days into one. On Friday, May 25, which is a half day, we will host field day games for Lower School and Middle School and special activities for our EC students. The day will begin with a sing-a-long. After field day activities, we'll gather together for a student/teacher volleyball game and buddy lunch! All families are invited to join us for what is sure to be a fun filled day! Early Childhood families should arrive by 8:30 a.m. for the sing-a-long. The PA Lunch Program is sponsoring a school-wide Pizza Lunch for the entire school on Spirit Day! Families are welcome to bring additional snacks and drinks to supplement the pizza lunch.

12:00 p.m. - Alumni Induction Lunch for Eighth Grade Students

2:00 p.m. - Middle School Recognition Assembly for students, families and friends. Students are required to wear their formal uniforms. 

 

Friday, June 1: Baccalaureate & Graduation Dinner - 6:00 p.m.

This year, our Baccalaureate & Graduation Dinner will be celebrated at St. Anne's Church. All family members are invited to attend both events. Seventh Grade families are invited to join us in honoring the Eighth Grade class during the Baccalaureate and Seventh Grade families graciously host the Graduation Dinner afterwards. A feature of the evening is a short presentation given by the St. Anne's staff to celebrate the graduates. Please RSVP to Tiffany Musa

 

Sunday, June 3: Service to Honor Fran Lukens at St. Anne's Church, 11:15 a.m.
All St. Anne's School families are invited to attend a special service at St. Anne's Church to honor Fran on her retirement. A reception on the church lawn will follow the service.

Monday, June 4: Seventh Grade Boat Races, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Our Seventh Grade students take cardboard boats that they have constructed over to Hillsmere shores to test their designs. This event is for Seventh Grade students and their families.

Tuesday, June 5: MS Variety Show, 2:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 6: Half Day (No AEP, No After Care, No Club Ed), Graduation, 10 a.m.

Graduates arrive at St. Anne's School at 9:00 a.m. This is the final day of school for the Eighth Grade. The graduation is approximately one hour in length and is followed by a reception in the Meditation Garden. Family and friends are welcome. This year's graduation speakers will be Ford Rowan, a supporter of Episcopal education and friend of the school, and Maddie O'Hare, Class of 2008.

 

Thursday, June 7: Last Day of School (No AEP, No After Care, No Club Ed), Closing Chapel, 11 a.m. 

All families are invited to attend our school-wide Closing Chapel as we officially end the school year.
