Dear St. Anne's School Family,
In the Thanksgiving season, we think of gratitude and generosity. At St. Anne's School, cultivating an attitude of gratitude is our goal all year long, and it's gratifying to see our students in action. Two of our Eighth Grade students initiated the card drive to ask every student to create a card for Sarah McMahon for delivery to her parents at the 5K Run for Sarah. Our Kindergarten and First Grade students entertained residents at Sunrise Assisted Living on Halloween and will return for a Christmas visit. All Eighth Grade students are composing their community service proposal as a part of their year-long Capstone Project.
As I reflect on my tenure as Head of School, I am grateful for the gifts I have received. One is the rare and extraordinary opportunity of founding a school. Another is witnessing the dedication and expertise of our teachers who shape the program and reach out to every student every day. And I am grateful to parents, grandparents and St. Anne's friends, for your belief in the school and your gifts of time, talent and treasure, your volunteer leadership, your encouragement and financial support.
Tomorrow, it's Make a Gift Monday. Stop by the Parent Center at drop off for some coffee and light refreshments and make your gift to the Annual Fund. Let's all join in to make this year our highest participation ever in support of our teachers!
Warm regards,
Fran Lukens Head of School |
Proof of the Pudding
Our graduates give back. This week, I had the opportunity to talk with Gail Martinez, mother of Ariel (Class of 2000) and Amelia (Class of 2004) Brumbaugh. Ariel has just completed her master's degree in writing at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on poetry. She is working at an alternative school, teaching high school English. Her sister, Amelia is taking a year during college to live in Mexico, to become fluent in Spanish in a language immersion program and to learn about the culture of the Mexican people first hand. Before she left, she earned a grant to work with recent immigrants to guide them through the job hunting process. It's wonderful to hear about our graduates giving back to the community! |
