ACHLS and Bunker Hill Community College Featured Articulation Agreement
The ACHLS has entered into 10 Articulation (or Transfer) Agreements with community colleges in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The ACHLS has had an Articulation Agreement with Bunker Hill Community College since October 19, 2009. The Agreement outlines the required courses a student should take at BHCC in order to enter the ACHLS, as well as a description of the application process. The Agreement also includes recommended courses a student should take at Bunker Hill before coming to ACHLS.

A Short History of Reconstruction by Eric FonerACHLS Featured Text
 ACHLS students are starting American History II class with A Short History of Reconstruction, by Eric Foner during the week of January 19. The text examines how the South defined itself after being defeated in the Civil War. The full syllabus for American History II and Writing II will be online soon.

Free Seminar THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR: 1861-1865 Taught by Pulitzer Prize Nominated Historian, Michael Chesson

Dr. Michael Chesson, founding professor and Dean of ACHLS, will be hosting a seminar on the Civil War. The seminar is a public service and there is no cost.Professor Chesson's seminar will cover the history of the Civil War, its impact on leaders, soldiers, families, society and other countries at the time, and how the war relates to assessing present and future U.S. policy. The seminar will be held at the ACHLS on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Space is limited. Please RSVP online or via email to info@achls.org by March 30, 2011.

Welcome Deborah Morin
 The American College of History and Legal Studies announces the appointment of Deborah Morin as a recruiting officer. Deborah joins Christopher Carpenter in the Admissions Department. Deborah holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts/Boston, and a M.B.A from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts. Deb is a 23 year US Army veteran, retired Lieutenant Colonel. She is also a retired Massachusetts educator and spent over ten years teaching English, History, and Social Studies at the high school level. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Massachusetts/Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, and North Shore Community College. Andrea Defusco-SullivanACHLS Featured Professor
Andrea DeFusco-Sullivan is a Professor of Writing at ACHLS. She was born in Lawrence, MA and lives in Methuen. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Boston College's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and was honored with its Teaching Excellence award. She has been teaching all levels of college English, from writing seminars to specialized literature courses, since 1991. She has published pedagogical articles in The Hemingway Review, and has published a literary biography of native Lawrencian Robert Frost. She is currently working on a reader-response guide to Hamlet.
Her professional interests include rhetorical devices and strategies, and Modern American Literature. She is fluent in Spanish, and hopes to acquire fluency in Italian and French. She loves watching hockey, gardening, cooking, golf, and her family, especially Ben the Hound.

Welcome to the e-newsletter of the American College of History and Legal Studies! This e-newsletter is delivered to students, faculty, staff, and friends of the ACHLS.
Created by the Massachusetts School of Law, the ACHLS is an affordable senior college offering the junior and senior years of undergraduate study. The college offers bachelor's degrees in history and legal studies, and all classes exclusively use the discussion (not lecture) method of teaching. ACHLS also offers an "Early Admission to Law School" program whereby qualified students can combine their senior year of college with their first year of law school.
