It's All Good News
Spring will soon be in the air and we'll be moving into your  new building in April. That alone is a major accomplishment. However, our staff and volunteers have been busy with other major projects as well. Our Fee Waived, Free Spay And Neuter and Low Cost Shot Clinics have been on a roll. With donor support, we're committed to having as many animals in Avery County spayed or neutered as possible. Our Fee Waived program allows us to control shelter population so no healthy, adoptable animal, is put down for lack of space. Finally, with the help of Dr. Jewell and Dr. Lang,  we offer Low Cost Shot Clinics to keep your animals healthy. But stay tuned. We have more innovative ideas up our sleeve that you'll be hearing about in the months to come. Without your support it would not be possible.
On Your Mark, Get Set, Move!
We expect to be moving into our new building in April. Administrative staff will be moved first, followed by the animals and shelter staff on April 16th. This is such an exciting time for Avery County. Your new facility will have "state of the art" air control that will prevent hundreds of animals being exposed to deadly airborne sickness and disease. Thanks to everyone for making this dream come true. There is still time to have a paver at the front entrance with your name, the name of a loved one or pet. How exciting it will be to visit the new building and show your friends and family your name on the walk leading into the building. Click here to make your paver choices.

WOW! Forty-Two Percent Increase In Shelter Adoptions & Counting
For the last seven months, we adopted 42% more animals than the preceding seven months. These numbers can be attributed to both our Fee Waived program and improved marketing. Our shelter staff are motivated and we're motivated to improve those numbers. The increase represents an additional 93 animals placed in forever homes.

100 Animals Spayed or Neutered in Avery County with Cash Gifts

Thanks to a generous gift of $5,000 from an enthusiastic board member, we began a free spay/neuter test program for Newland residents. What a tremendous success! We gave out 86 free vouchers in only two weeks. Without this grant, it is doubtful that the animals would have been fixed. We also received $1,000 from Pit Bull Rescue and $2,000 from The Spector Foundation for low income residents. Lack of spay/neuter is the main cause of pet over-population nationwide and we're no different. This plan is expected to continue for the rest of the year.

How Avery And Linville Animal Hospitals Help Us
We cannot thank enough the services of Drs Jewell and Lang for their many contributions to the shelter. They offer both low cost spay/neuter and low cost shot clinics. Big hugs from us and our furry friends to these vets who truly care about animals.

Volunteer Line Starts Here - Sign Ups Are Welcome

Everyone can help.  Anyone with special skills such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, photography, videograpy, advertising, graphics layout or other skills are welcome.
