The Scoop
August 2012 | Edition 10

Greetings!

August in Washington is a perfect time for reflection. The city quiets down a bit, overdue vacations are finally taken, and for some of us, it's a moment of calm before the fast pace of September returns. This August, we've been doing our own share of reflection, most recently on the topic of organizational transitions, as part of the first in a series of new viewpoints requested by our clients, and explained below. We've also been wrapping up special projects for AIDS United and AARP, and gearing up for a special late summer communications workshop on message development, to be hosted here at C.Fox Communications. Have a read below for more details.

Enjoy these last few weeks of summer, and we look forward to connecting with you soon.

C.Fox News and Notes:

C.Fox Communications Joins the A Billion+ Change

...a national movement to mobilize billions of dollars in pro-bono and skills-based services to address the issues
that face our communities and the world. By 2013, A Billion+ Change hopes to have raised $2 billion. Through our annual Inspired Though (it) Award, C.Fox pledges to contribute at least $30,000 per year to the already $1.8 billion pledged.

C.Fox Welcomes Julia Halloran

In mid-July, Julia joined the team in her new full-time role of Marketing Coordinator, though she is not new to the agency. Julia recently wrapped up a one-year internship with C.Fox while she completed her studies at the University of Maryland.  Read more about Julia  and the rest of our team here.

Our Take: Communicating During Organizational Transitions

This week, C.Fox releases the first in a series of resource guides on issues that are often top of mind for our clients. The first guide, now available online, offers 8 Guidelines for Communicating During Organizational Transitions.

Capabilities Spotlight: Healthcare Marketing

We recently developed a national education and awareness campaign on hearing loss and prevention for AARP, the nation's leading advocacy and membership organization for people 50 and over. We developed the concept and message boards and turned them into impactful print and digital communications tools. Through the execution of insightful interviews, crisp writing, and clean design we developed the campaign's 30-page flagship resource guide as well as a slimmed-down quick reference booklet and print public service announcement. The tools have given AARP a substantial voice on hearing loss and prevention and consumers an all-in-one, reliable source for practical information.

Client News:

Congratulations to Tim Delaney, president and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits for his well-deserved recognition in this year's Nonprofit Times' Power and Influence Top 50 list of nonprofit executives. Delaney has been able to mobilize state associations to handle battles on many fronts and the coordination often wins the day. While ready for national fights, the state-by-state skirmishes are where the rapid response is needed. Delaney has ably coordinated national response to local issues.  Congratulations, Tim!

Congratulations also to the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative, which has been awarded $1,000,000 over a three-year period from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation. This support adds significantly to the organization's ability to help young people make successful transitions from foster care to adulthood by improving the policies and systems that affect them. The award will support ongoing research, advocacy, and field building that are needed to create a "new normal" in the way young people who have been in foster care are supported.

The Social Media Olympics

With Jordyn Weiber tweeting before her trials and the U.S. men's and women's swim teams doing their own rendition of "Call Me Maybe" on YouTube, the 2012 Summer Games will go down in textbooks as the first Social Media Olympics. While this presents new communications challenges for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it also provides exciting new opportunities that will allow fans and athletes to bask in the glow of the Olympic torch a little longer.

Save Lives: End the HIV Stigma
AIDS United's Ronald Johnson featured on CNN.com

As a gay black man who came of age just before the 1969 Stonewall riots, I've seen far too many examples of the inequalities that exist in America. But I'm also highly encouraged by recent developments...after many, many years, we are finally piercing the stigma surrounding being gay in America.  Now let's talk about erasing the stigma of HIV/AIDS. Right now, 1.2 million Americans are living with HIV/AIDS. I am one of them.
