May 2010     Volume 1     No. 1
Welcome to the new Iowa Master Gardener newsletter! The Master Gardener News & Views is a monthly update from your state Master Gardener staff. It will be available electronically by signing up on the Join Our Mailing List button on the left. Newsletter content will focus on items that are useful to Master Gardeners and Master Gardener Coordinators. This newsletter will likely evolve to meet the needs of you as readers.

One major goal of the newsletter is to provide information about programs across the state. Having access to a calendar of events is one way to accomplish that. In an attempt to avoid reinventing the wheel, we would like to use the existing Extension calendar as much as possible. Please see the May Events Calendar under Quick Links as an example of current horticulture programming. Event posting is typically done by Extension staff. -Jen

Scott County Program Honored
Check out the February-April 2010 issue of the QC Magazine [QC = Quad City] to see a three page spread honoring the ISU Master Gardener program in Scott County. Highlights include a description of what Master Gardeners do, a tribute to the fact that Scott County had the first program in the state, and examples of some of the wonderful volunteers in the program. Bravo!
New Face, Same Place
Jen 2Greetings from an Iowa farm girl. My name is Jennifer (McGuire) Bousselot and I am the new Master Gardener Coordinator and Lecturer at Iowa State University. I am delighted to be returning to my home state, especially since I am a Cyclone alum. I earned interdisciplinary degrees in Plant Health and Protection in 2001 (Bachelors) and Sustainable Agriculture in 2003 (Masters), both here at Iowa State. More recently, I worked with Master Gardeners in Extension for Colorado State University at the county level (2003-2006) and then completed a PhD in Horticulture researching green roofs at Colorado State University. I am delighted to be working with Master Gardeners again, as I have missed the unique blend of gardening passion and dedication to improving the community that Master Gardeners engender. You can find me in Horticulture Hall, room 137 or contact us.
Your Very Own Website
As you know, there is an official ISU Master Gardener website  so please help us tailor it to your needs. Feedback is more that welcome, so please contact us with suggestions. One item of special interest is the Master Gardener Hours Reporting Online. Please help us document your hours of dedication by keeping your hours up to date. A special how-to guide is available on the website to help keep this user-friendly program truly easy to use.
