Congratulations to Kiara B. Winner in the Citywide Seventh-grade Poetry Contest
 | |
Kiara with her brother, Kesan, and Grandmother
|
Last fall, every seventh grader in a public, private, or charter school in the city of St. Louis was invited to write their best poem and submit it for judging for the St. Louis Citywide Poetry Contest. De La Salle student Kiara's poem was selected as one of the best from across the city.
On May 4, 2011, at the Regional Arts Commission building, 45 seventh-graders had an opportunity to read their poems in front of families, friends, teachers, strangers, and the cameras of STL-TV.
Kiara proudly read her poem "Life's Hard in Prison", dedicated to her uncle, James, in front of the enraptured audience. We are so very proud of her, too!
Life's Hard in Prison (Dedicated to my uncle, James)
It's hard To let others be in charge. To always be told to get up, Not even enough time to shoot a layup.
You sit in your cell Thinking, Man, this is like Hell, But you caused it yourself.
Don't criticize a brother, Just love one another. Be cool, calm, collected Or you will be rejected.
Keep your space So haters won't get in your face. Don't make a case By killing a brother Who may or may not have your skin color. Just love one another. Click here to learn more about sponsoring a student like Kiara.

Help De La Salle Win a Classroom Library Makeover!
 | |
De La Salle Library
|
De La Salle's current "library" is part of the school cafeteria, separated only by a collapsing temporary wall. The room is used as an office, a language arts classroom, a counseling center, the lunch time detention area, the after school study hall, and our main library.
We need an organized library that is user friendly, where students can see the titles, and the genres. We want students to be able to search for books and utilize reference materials with ease.
The booksource will award a classroom library makeover to the school that wins the most votes. You can help by clicking here and voting for entry #18, De La Salle Middle School. Voting ends May 27th.
Thanks for your help! |
